Hi all, just returned yesterday from Weipa and the road up was the best I have ever seen it, and I travel there every year for our annual fishing trip.
The road on the way back was starting to become a little corrugated between Hann River and Laura but the rest of the road was excellent
Fuel prices as follows... diesel only
Cairns..$1.09
Lakeland..$1.15
Musgrave..$1.29
Archer River..$1.38
Weipa..$1.17
To all those fisherman out there, I caught my first barra over the metre mark.
It measured 1150mm and I released it
Cheers Poppy

Poppy,

Well done mate a metre + Barra is great, there's a sight you may want to look at called magicmark.com.au, I think you can register your catch on line for reaching the Barra magical mark, there's also a bottle of port you can buy to cellebrate the event.

G'day CUM800,

Staying anywhere special? Planning our Mt Isa to Darwin leg and am contemplating Mt Isa - Gregory Downs - Hells Gate - Borroloola - Roper Bar - Katherine. This is opposed to Mt Isa Katherine direct, it's the fishing that inspires us.

We're heading to the Kimberley but have a fishing date in Darwin that requires us to kill a week between Brisbane and Darwin.

Like to join the meter + club myself but at this stage they wouldn't even let me in the door with my efforts to date.

Kind regards and hope to see you along the way.

Hi CUM800
Should be able to make a dent in the fish population in 12 weeks.
How do you manage so much time away?
Cheers Poppy

Beatit,

Staying on the Alligator south of Jabiru first then heading to the mouth of the Daly. Depending on what the fish situation is like will either head further west to the Kimbelrys or back to Salt Ash Bay and Rosie Creek near Boroloola. Bush camping all the time.

Poppy.

SWMBO said go. I am going with my sons prvious boss who goes north fishing each winter. He went with him three years ago and the caught and released ableepload. Full self contained.

Early retirment due to the ticker allows every day to be sunday although its a hell of a way to get there. Get back in September then straight to Ruths area with two vans. The mate has his delivered in August and we are trying it out. Return from there and then have three weeks in Bali. Don't know how I had enought time to go to work before. I'll have a rest then until first week of april when we are heading around the block for four months.

Hi Poppy,

Was at Weipa a week after cyclone ingrid. Road in and out was absolute CRAP. Road was actually still signposted as closed but the locals that I was with said that is just to keep the tourists out! The coppers in the troopy even waved as we went past!

Just my luck as we came out they were staging the graders at Hann River Roadhouse and were just starting work. Is probably like a highway now!

Congrats on the metre barra mate!

Thanks Muddy
It was a great thrill to catch that barra, but a lot bigger thrill to release it

Graders were still working when we came home but water truck driver said they were off to work on 20ks of Cooktown road beginning of June.
With all the traffic heading north, I don't think it will be long before it all turns to crap again
Cheers Poppy
