Hey guys,

Have a look at what i've come across.

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=lantern+mesh+lpg&btnG=Search&meta=cr%3DcountryAULantern Mesh

Apparently they replace the old glass lenses that are in the gas lanterns. I'm not sure if other people have the same problem as me but i'm always breaking them. It's about time someone came up with something like this.

I'll definately be getting one before my next trip.

So, just wondering how the mantles handle wind gusts? At least glass keeps them relatively safe from being buffeted around while they're hot - and at their most fragile....

Use a flouro light. Have never gone back to gas since we first got the fluoro. I hate mantles and I hate broken glass :).

Totally agree with Tim here. The modern double tube 11 watt flouros are just so much better than the gas lamps. Much safer I think and they are silent, robust, versatile and can be hung up anywhere.

yes i have a gas light and a fluro and i don't think the gas light will ever be used again. Old technology and will be a collectors item soon a bit like people collect oil lamps.

I've actually seen one of these running. I blew on it as hard as i could and it didn't have any effect.

Bought one the other day cos i broke the glass one. Guy in the camping store said they are great but not as big a glow as you get off a glass lense. But they dont smash.

I like most people with a gas lamp, spent $40 buying it and another $100 in Glass for it at $7 a pop. I actually like the gas light but between the bloody glass and the mantle breakages...... mmmm yeah!!! maybe time to look beyond my set ways!!!! Michael.

can anyone give me some fuel consumption figures, and general advice for the GU patrols? I am trying to work out whether to get a 4.5L on gas, or a 2.8L tdi (as its cheaper to buy) or a 3.0TDi.
I had a 3L petrol/gas GQ, and then had a 97 Tdi Disco, but now am trying to work out what to get next. I like the 100 series, but pretty expensive, the 2.8L GU is cheaper, but from what i hear, not reall good under load, ANY SUGGSTIONS???????? How cheap is the 4.5L on gas to run!
Cheers,
Barney.
