Hi Everyone

I want to fir a bigger second fuel tank to my 99 GU...however I don't like the idea of spending $1000 for something that will give me a extra 40L or something. As all the GU owners know the sub tank is very small. Will it work if you go to the wreckers and get a main tank of a GU and replace the sub with the main? I am not sure if it will fit but if it does, I can't see why this won't work? Has anyone done something like this?

Thanks

Troll83, nah the main won't replace the aux tank, wrong shape.

A larger replacement main tank is the cheapest way to go and less hassels with hoses etc.

Yeah I've heard of people placing a main on the passenger side (reversed of course) but I have often wondered where the muffler goes then...

I've got a huge place under the back where the spare used to go that I'm interested in filling up with a tank, I have already moved the exaust around that bit. I spose that's the advantage of the wagon, being able to put the spare on a rear carrier.

Jeff-
Check out some Auto gas fitting shops. IT pretty common for them to use the spare wheel well to locate a small gas or fuel tank- you may be able to get hold of a cheap supplier thru them.
It may have been a one-off backwards setup, but recall seeing an EL Falcon and they replaced the fuel tank with a big gas tank and stuck a smaller fuel tank in the wheel well- though all others I've seen have been the opposite.
