Hi guys,
Wondering if anyone can help.
I Have an RA Rodeo and wish to increase the wheel tyre combo to 16x8" and 275/70/16 tyres. Just wondering if the speedo can be recalibrated easily or if it is mechanoical and needs gear changes?
Thanks in advance

Hi,

I have a 1997 Rodeo and it has an electronic speed sensor. I can't imagine an RA wouldn't have one.

I used this one.

I should have added.

Stick your head under your ute. If there is no cable coming from the gearbox then it is electronic.

There are 3 switches on the TFS Rodeo.

One for reversing lights (2 wires)
One for 4x4 light (2 wires)
One for speedo (3 wires)

This is on my 97 model so probably different wiring locations to yours.

I followed the wiring up from the gearbox and into the engine bay on top of the drivers side inner guard where it then went through the firewall and into the cabin under the dash. As I wanted to change the signal before the computer I tried to get at it just after it entered the cabin but it was too hard to get at. So I cut the wire on top of the inner guard and then soldered two wire extensions (one onto each cut end) and back into the cabin. I then wired the speedo correction unit and zip tied it under the dash somewhere.

Works very well and is heaps cheaper than the 4x4 shop units.

Thats interesting. I wondered why my Frontera registered correct speed when I fitted larger radius tyres.

When I went from 205/75 16 to 225/75 16 my speedo was then spot on. However with the 31x10.5 the speedo was out by 6%.

my ra when fitted with 31x10.5 r15 speedo spot on with gps. 265x 75/16 out by 5km at 100 kmh.
utemad used kit to rectify his older model. on my 2000 r9 i used a different tooth gear in gearbox 2 min job.
i had a look under the ra, totaly different and havn't had time to "explore" so use my gps with 265's.

regards peter
