Hi Everyone,

We are going to grab a week at Moreton Island in September just before the school holidays and I was wanting any current info on the camping areas/facilities available etc over there. We will be taking our camper trailer.

I have checked the EPA website and others but I would like to hear first hand from those that have recently been. I have printed out the trek notes from here and they are great.

We will probably get off the barge at the Tangalooma wrecks.

Thanks in advance.

G'day Brian,
A group of us went recently and are about to go again.
We camped at a camp-ground 5-10 minutes drive north of the wrecks.
It is just south of the village of Cowan Cowan.
It has no facilities but there are showers/toilets at a NPWS camp-ground
(the name escapes me) about half way back to the wrecks.

We found it had plenty of room, a great view of the bay and sunset and
central to all the places you want to see. Plus we were sheltered from the
constant SE breezes.

One trick to finding it, ignore the beach bypass sign to Cowan Cowan and
keep travelling up the beach, the camp is not signed but you will notice
the fencing along the top of the beach denotes the area.

Have a good trip,
Cheers Moz

go to www.moretonventure.com.au or combietrader.com.au both have maps ect . 1st is the main transport for tangalooma /resort , easy drive on and off ,no reversing ,,, combie trader supplies bulwer township ,older barge yet dearer fares.
