Can anyone help me, what year did toyota start to fit the 3.0 turdo diesel motor to the standard dualcab Hilux. Any feed back on this vehicle would be great as I am deciding on which 4wd to buy.

Cheers.

1KZ-TE version came out second half of '99. But I think they were retuned sometime in 2000 for a few more Kw. Just my recollection.

Also you might find a lot of useful info in Redbook. They give you the specs as well as the prices.

Cheers

The 1KZ-TE Motor has been around since the early 90's in the surfs, then in the Prado's and then also the Hilux's. The motor is a good one, nice and quiet (for a diesel) smooth power band, great hooked up to an auto (almost nil turbo lag, and awsome in the sand). They are not as "pokey" as the new common rail types but they certainly hold there own and are of no comparison the the older 2.8 SLUGS in the previous model hiluxs.

The hiluxs themselves, what can you say, the're hiluxs, basic honest work horses with a leaf sprung ass end that'll make you work for your money on corrugations. But hey, a good truck in general.
