We have a 1996 model standard cruiser, 235/85 R16 tyres on white rims. The spare is the original split, with the round holes round the edge. I know there is some problem with the dishing size, due to the larger calipers. Can you use the older style normal split rims as spares, eg, as per the 60 series cruisers? Is this a problem only on the front? Your advice would be most appreciated!

Chris, Your cruiser (80 series Std) came standard with 16 x 5.5 split rims. The "white rims" (Sunraysia?) would have been fitted by a previous owner. A problem with the dishing size?? do you mean offset? Not if the spare rim you have is an original. What you must make sure of is that the total diameter of the rim and tyre is the same as the others on your car. That is you should not have say a 33 inch diameter tyre on the rear left and a 32 inch tyre on the rear right. Cheers.

Tony, thanks for your reply..yes I mean the offset. Are the 80 series splits with the round holes round the outside edge the same offset etc as the earlier 60 series splits with the elongated holes. I checked the rim I was given as a second spare and it seems to clear everything fine, so I assume its OK. ( its one of the original 16inch 60 series factory chrome rims.
