The LED display on my 1998 Patrol's entertainment unit has bleep itself. Been going off intermittently for about a month and then today - no show at all. Has anyone else had a problem with this? If so what was required to fix it. I'm thinking that it may
well be cheaper to find a new unit than have the existing one fixed. Any advice would be appreciated.

You could ditch it and get one of the new DVD units that fit in the old spot, can play DVD, CD, CDRW, MP3, and you can input a display from a suitable laptop to watch your GPS maps.
Cot around $500 I think.
I turfed my 98 model tape player for a Sony Xplod MP3 player before I saw the above thingy somewhere and I'm kicking myself!

It is possible it isn't the screen but the bulb that illuminates it. I haven't had a Patrol radio apart in a while but if it is the usual bulb that is used then you can buy them from Jaycar or Dick Smith for <$2. Get really close to the screen and see if you can see anything displayed on it. If you can then it is the bulb.
If it is the screen then since it was intermittent then it could possibly be a dry solder joint or some other kind of bad connection. Whatever it is I am sure it would be internal.
It probably would cost around $60 + parts. If you take it to a
shop that has their own tech and sales then they might take the cost of a quote off a new unit if you decide not to repair it.

Thanks Utemad - it does seem to be an intermittent problem with power to the LED. Seems if I hit a big enough bump it comes on and stays on. Then if I turn off and leave sit for a while the bloody thing goes to sleep again......until the next big bump. Suggest, like you say, a loose or inadequate connection somewhere.
