Ross H.Extended warranty worth it. Just read the fine print see what your actually covered for. Some dealerships will make you get your vehicle serviced by them only. Holden is like that. I bought a new one in 01 and didn't take out the extra care warranty because I would have had to take it to them for all the services from day one for 6 years would cost me a fortune as they make you have I every 6 months or 10,000k wether you do the klms or not. There labour cost about $70h Fixed service price of about $175 + parts. When I bought my new toyota I took out the extra warranty but didn't have to take it to them for servicing not unless I had a warranty issue then you have to get the warranty done by toyota. Some only cover you for a certain amount. As I said just read the fine print and ask questions. Try and get a few things like I did with toyota I requested that I get a loan car if my vehicle ever went in for warranty work I got it.Make sure you get signatures on the paper work from the manager for things like this not the salesperson.Good luck Take care Vitara

I havnt heard of you having to have the servicing done by them to keep the warranty valid and whats more I am sure it is not legal the only obligation is to have it serviced by the book at manafactures recomended intervals by qualified mechanics

If its a genuine FACTORY extended warranty (all up 5 years from new) , yes , I believe it IS worth it. There is no difference to what you would have got with the new vehicle.

If its an AFTERMARKET warranty and NOT supported by Nissan THEMSELVES , they are little more then an Insurance Policy.

May be ok , but , read the wording carefully.

If its factory , I would grab it. Dont remember cost but I suspect it would be $600- $700 ???

Nissan factory extended warranty is the only one to get in my opinion as it is an extension of the factory warranty. $1000 I think is cost from memory but I think you can wheel and deal a little.

I purchase extended Nissan (not dealer) warranty with my new GU 2 years ago and think it cost about $500. They are a good thing for piece of mind but think you'll find it is not the same as the cover provided for first 3 years but rather reduces to cover drive train only, but hey, that's the expensive stuff.

Remember that any insurance policy is designed, on average, to make money for the insurance company. i.e. for an average set of repairs needed for your vehicle over a set period of time (e.g. 2 extra years warranty) you will pay MORE for an insurance policy to cover these than paying for repairs yourself.

The only advantage is when you have a vehicle that is worse than average.

You have to ask yourself - could you afford a big repair bill if it comes? If so, you are better off putting the cost of the extended warranty in a savings account for a rainy day!

I thought that the extended warranty would only be useful to those Nissan owners with 3.0 engines, but I took it out on my 4.2TD. Had two turbos replaced and a gearbox fixed, all under this warranty. $100 excess each time. I thought it was worth it. Clutches are something they tend to reject, tho, and it can be difficult to get satisfaction re warranty, as they usually say it was due to abuse.

Hi guys thanks for your replies. Spoke to nissan said $1000 for 2years 50000km
Get this was told you had to use genuine nissan parts and oil (valvoline 10 w40)
Told him sounds like extortion to me.
I currently use pensoil 15w40 (long haul deisel oil) and car hasn't run better ie. more power, quieter and smoother.
Think I might run the gauntlet (touch wood) I know it is piece of mind but $1000 is a new set of tyers, maybe winch and the list goes on.
Thanks ross

Quoting from my Nissancare extended warranty book.

It is a condition ot htis warranty that you have your vehicle properly, regularly and punctually serviced, and that you operate your vehicle in accordance with the owner literature appropriate to your vehicle.

....

We recommend that all servicing be carried out by an authorised Nissan dealer.........

I don't take mine to a Nissan dealer, nor do I use Valvoline. I use an oil that meets the specs in their service book, my mechanic does a better job than the dealer IMO. Haven't had to make any claims but I don't expect any problems if I need to.
I took out the extended warranty when I bought the car and as it's a work vehicle it became just another work related deduction but given the reputation of the 3.0 it's worth taking out IMO.

Thanks Pat I had just about made my mind up and then you come in and throw around logical thoughts. I only use car as transport to work most of the time, I pretty much maintain it the same way you do. I was under the impression that most of the problems was with patrol ie. 3/4 ton heavier and bigger turbo. Do you know recent problems with the navara, I have herd of some gearbox problems but I hardly ever do any towing, any thoughts would be appreciated
