Gday all,

I had decided to get a carby fed petrol GQ Patrol a couple of weeks ago...but not now. Had a chat with John from Brisbane Turbos and have been told that without a doubt, the efi model will be the best choice. He suggested a Garret ball bearing turbo with intergrated waste gate, 3 inch mandrell exhaust, dump pipe etc and I should get around 240hp at the rears @ 10psi. I may intercool as well. This will benifit performance. That's some serious neddies. I was informed the carby version whilst very tough, is not suited to turbos. He said a hybrid T3/T4 Garret could go on but only run 5psi due to the difference in compression. The other issue was heat and the fact that the fuel would most likely boil in the hot QLD heat causing performance issues.

So now I'm on the prowl for a GQ EFI patrol with as low k's as I can get for as cheap as possible...obviously. So if you see one, member message me, I'd much appreciate it...and I'm willing to travel to get it. Keep ya posted.

Cheers guys and gals,

Chris.

They had the Garrett turbo for $1750 including the intergrated wastegate, still way too much, I'm going to source the turbo, and intercooler myself and have it fitted by them. The only thing I will have to cough up for is the manifold which I'm told is worth around $1000. I should get the turbo and intercooler for around $1,500. It will cost 2k I'd reckon to have it set up.

My mate runs a T3/T4 hybrid on his TD42 and it's awesome, I still haven't ruled that out as I can pick a 500hp garrett up for $600 which would substantially reduce the cost.

Peter, that's good to know, I dug around a bit and most seem happy with the EFI model, it was the carby version which a few wern't completely happy with.

Cheers

Chris.

Not GQ related but I have my eye on a 160KW
SE Turbo upgrade package for my Mx5 -1.8 Turbo- which will give it approx 40kw gain. The kit upgrades the complete exhaust including High flow cat , Intercooler + upgraded piping and Cold air intake. . About $4000 installed

Saw a 1994 GQ RX 4.2 EFI at Cousins Rocklea the other day for $14 000 with 120 or 140000km on the clock. It looked pretty good for its age (I only had a very quick look as it was raining) and looked totally stock standard. If you rocked on in there with 11000-12000 cash you would probably get it
