I have been noticing a slight, slow voltage drop in both cranking and deep cycle batteries recently and first thought it was the redarc battery isolator,(which is over 2 years old) so I removed it from the vehicle and sent it back to redarc electronics for testing. They have returned it back to me and it was working perfectly and upgraded it to the new type and at no cost including postage.
All I can say is that their after sales service is terrific.
Their website is wirth looking at too. http://www.redarc.com.au/smart-start.htm
Thanks Redarc.

G'day Des,
How's the 50 going???? hahaha

So, what is/was the cause of the voltage drop in your 2 batteries if it wasn't caused by the isolator?

Cheers

Howarya Bill,
The 50 is going great. The voltage has dropped on both batteries from 12.9 volts to 12.4 volts in just over a week of being parked in the shed.
It seemed strange that both batteries were losing charge.
Easiest solution is to keep the battery maintainer connected up when the old girl is pining away for me in the shed.
JFYI I heard of a good 100 about to come on the market locally. Maybe it's time for you to seriously upgrade instead of upgrading the trol trying to meet Yota standards cos it will never happen. lol

Cheers

Interesting - I have the same on my 99 TD SE Jack - I put it down to the security circuit - guess it chews a bit of energy while keeping tabs on the car.

The cold weather will be messing with you guys readings too. You'll probally find if you check the voltage in the morning it will read low but if you check it again at lunch it will have jumped back up a little.

Des (and others)

I don't think anything is amiss mate.
According to a chart I have, 12.7 volts = 100% charge, so anything above that is due to the charging effect. The slight drop is probably only surface charge.

Check again in a day or two's time to see if the voltage continues to drop, or whether it has stabilised.

Thats a hard one...whats got access to both batteries???
Id think first that one might be on the way out...but it shouldnt make the other drop off....r u sure u dont need new batteries in the tester...lol
One way to check for sure is to remove the earth to the aux after running and seewhat happens then after a few days!

Had an old mate drop in last evening ,who had just recently bought himself a 92 Nissan poverty pack diesel patrol ,came fitted with dual low maintenance batts ,controlled thru redarc , told me that last 3 mornings could not start vehicle unless tapped starter motor with hammer ,I checked batt voltages , main 12.78 ,aux 9.12 = 1 stuffed batt and 1x redarc NOT disconnecting aux at shutdown ,batts equalising at shutdown leaving 2x flat batts ,,disconnected redarc ,jump started main batt from cruiser , let nissan idle 20min , main batt back to full volts ,, phoned this morning ,started 1st kick ,
your REDARC probs

Hi Alloy c/t

The redarc disconnects the main bat at 12.6 volts, so if the main was showing 12.78 (your figures) then it WON'T disconnect, its doing its job.

As for Willems isolator failure, he has a ROTRONICS, not a redarc (he corrected this on latter posts). And as for Des, well his was working plus they upgraded to a later model, cannot ask for more than that.

So the only failure posted was actually a rotronics!!!

Cheers

G/day Captain, perhaps did explain not quite right , the Redarc was not disconnecting at 12.6 or even 12.5 , both batts end up FLAT as dud batt tries to equalise with good batt .. = redarc failure ......

Thanks for clearing that up, it does sound like a redarc failure. Not common but not impossible either. Both Redarc and Rotronics are very good isolators but, like ALL mechanical devices, are not 100% failsafe.

Cheers
