Hi all,

Just could not help myself but to let you have an initial look at the latest work in progress to the road conditions system. I have been linking all the reported roads to the mapping engine and hence producing a dynamic map of all Un-sealed road status in Australia. Spent the last 4 days on it and still a few more to go. It uses 4 colours being red - closed, orange - caution, green - open and silver as major/unknown/un-reported.

As mentioned it is a WIP and has some of the QLD, SA information. It is dynamic and changes as the road conditions get updated (current as of a few minutes ago). This coupled with the new external updates functions will make a great improvement.

We also are starting to track all road conditions history so we record all changes for every road and will be able to graph and display these results in time. I am starting to work on WA now so if you check back every now and then you will see more roads appearing.

When completed you will be able to use the mapping engine (membership/credits) to allow you to zoom in/out of the reports to see every little road in true vector mapping format. Aso you will be able to enquire on the map and get a text display of the road you click on to tell you the current status (and user feedback - if recorded).

For now to view the map image go to the Road Conditions Index and scroll down the page.

"It uses 4 colours being red - closed, orange - caution, green - open and silver as major/unknown/un-reported."

And maybe gold - being for those we have to pay for permits... lol.

Again, you are doing us all proud.

Keep it up...

Hum,

Permits in gold now that is not a bad idea actually. I will think about tagging the new named roads database I am building with a field for permits, so that I could run a map for all permit required roads and links to the permits information and products. Not bad Wolfie - thanks, not really a lol but a good idea.

So, the roads shall be paved with gold, and as we continue on our journey, across this great land, we shall see many colours. The colours of the skies, the colours of the oceans, and the colours of the deserts.

But when one wearies of the colours, he shall only have to consult his laptop, and look for the map, showing the roads of many colours, and ask the map.... "Show me the way to go home..."

If the road is green, ye shall have a speedy journey to thou loved ones.

If the road is orange, thou will have to adopt ye driving attitude, as one does, when approaching the yellow traffic light... plant thou foot down, and force thy chariot through thou difficult terrian.

If the road is red, thou is going to have to wait before seeing loved ones, and maybe run the chance of being unloved by the ones that did once love thee, because thee was late for the loving.

If the road is silver, this would surely be a sign from above, from the god of freedom of femdom, saying to thee, that no information is available, and thou should extend thou holiday with thou drunk travelling partners until new information is forthcoming.

If the road is gold, thou may have to appease various gods, barons & kings with trinkets and coins, for this is the way of the golden path.

Now, for those of you that may be wondering....
.... the Yellow Brick Road.... this is the road that Elton John took, and Dorothy, Tin Man.....

May you choose well....

Thanks for that David.

The "Road Conditions Index" link above doesn't work but On the Road tab then - Road Conditions gets us there. Looks Good.

Looks good David and I guess as you refine it and get the times for speed levels it will be to assist those who are trip planning too, not just the short term of road conditions. I wonder how many may think of dual highway speeds for their travelling?

The only thing I am missing now is my 10 day rain forcast site has been off air for 10 days. What a bu****.

Steve,

Have just found they have posted a new address to get what I have been using and it looks like a centralian swimming festival coming up with the rainfall outlook is the new address for up to the 9th of July. I think they have some date information wrong there though as it is supposed to be 10 days.

Hope all goes well with Denny's op, please give her a hug from us.
