Hi All,

Our old friend Harold Scruby got some more airtime on Today Tonight this evening bashing 4x4 owners but it had a new twist.

Harold now seems to be advocating that guys that buy 4x4 vehicles do so because we are not well endowed physically. He actually came out with that one.

Now the guy is a major loser as is that particular show but I actually think that he has hurt his own cause with that statement as I would imagine a lot of his supporters would even start to think how much he has lost the plot with statements like that one.

Anyway that's the latest for the Scruby file folks.

Brian B

Was a weird sortof twist as I saw THE MEDIA start to question him like he was a bit of a looney. The spokesman for 4by4 was pretty good and was not edited to harshly by TT.

Any publicity is good publicity though.

I hope it was the thin edge of the wedge of Scuby's demise

Hello All

Had a minor part to play in the news media for 12 years and I know how they operate . Quiet news days happen . When it does you need a ' RENT A MOUTH' . This could be defined as an opinionated fool who will pontificate on nearly every thing when prodded . The best was the Rev Fred Nile . The result of using a ' RENT A MOUTH ' is always recognizable as a ' beat up ' and the better news media only use them when desperate . Poor Bruce will only rate as a second tier RENT A MOUTH because of his restricted field and his already diminished credibility , however , expect to see more of him .

Mr Scruby replied to my email by sending me facts and figures about deaths by 4wds and bullbars and an extract from the SMH about Bullbars being banned in EU on new vehicles.

I replied:

"Mr Scruby, your distortion of people's misfortune to aid your own pathetic cause is disgraceful. You should be ashamed of yourself. If you honestly believe that it's ok for someone to get hit and killed by a Toyota Tarago or Holden Commodore without a bullbar then you are a very disturbed human being.
What kind of car do you drive Mr Scruby? Don't worry, we all know. We also know about your previous indiscretions on the road so don't even try to talk about road safety to me. You are a lying little weed of a man who should be castrated. Why don't you email your distorted studies, figures and dribble to someone who's actually stupid enough to believe it.

Good day to you.

Yeah Bonz I know what your saying but I have conversed with this guy before and believe that he is now so close to falling of the horse of sanity that a bombardment of harsh emails might make him snap and start foaming at the mouth. This could be a good thing as his cause will not be helped by him losing the plot. It already looks like he is starting to lose the plot, some encouragment could be fun! LOL

I watched it last night but my interpretation was that they were taking the P??? out of him.

They even brough up that he drove a for wheel drive and interviewed several women 4wd drivers about their view.

To me it seemed like we got our side better represented than previously.

I sent Today Tonight an email this morning:

"Can you please refrain from having Mr Harold Scruby on your show in the future? His arrogance and pure naivety were, I feel embarrassing to your show. I got so sick of listening to his dribble I had to turn the TV off half way through the show. Next time you have a slow news day and are struggling for a storey why not show some puppy dogs at the RSPCA, At least the interview would be more intelligent."

Last night was the first time I have ever watched Today Tonight (if you can call having the television on in the background whilst lighting the open fire watching) and the story caught my attention. My impression at the conclusion of the segment was that the media were portaying Mr Harold Scruby in the same light as the ranting pedophile in the previous story, as somebody with a warped perception of the world around him. The basis of his hypothesis was that ALL 4WD owners purchase their vehicles because of a latent predisposition to impose their will on other road users by using their vehicle to maim and kill. So it now transpires that it is not the actual 4WDs that are a problem but the retarded mental state of their owners. This individual is getting more irrational by the day and therefore his anti-4WD arguments are becoming less and less believable. My belief is that the general public has seen through the hyperbole of his quest and are now starting to see him as the inconsequential fool that he is, and that the story on Today Tonight reflected this attitude.

Give a man enough rope and he will hang himself!

As far as I am concerned Harold Scrubby is entitled to an opinion and is free to express it. The best we can do is counter it with sensible arguments.

However, what gives me great comfort is the latest offering from him. If this is the best he can muster, suggesting that people buy 4wds because of the size of their empendage (or lack of it) then bring the 4wd debate on!

We shouldn't be harrassing him over the way he has just articulated his cause, to the contrary, we should congratulate him. His comments just relegated him to fringe element status. That is the best thing he could have done for 4wd enthusiasts.

Good onya Harold!

As mentioned previously, serial nuisances seek attention.

The media show is a media show, they want attention too.

However the problem is that uninformed people are misled and they vote too.

So I guess the best approach is to criticise the journalist for being frivolous - misleading people with a sill, uninformed source. Journalists can always ask the NRMA and others who have professional credibility.

So I expect one is better off writing to a paper to criticise a TV hack or to a different paper to criticise a newsprint hack.
