I'm looking for a toopy rv (forward facing rear seats) but they're not as common as 11 seaters. To increase my options I'm considering looking at 11 seaters as well and ripping out the rear seats and replacing with a forward facing bench seat. Would this be expensive and easy/hard to do?
Thanks, bware

The RV/six seaters usually came with snorkels and the aux fuel tank as well.

An 11 seater will not have the mounts for the standard rear set in situ so you will have to fit them as well as the top mount for the lap/sash rear seatbelts.
I've done it and I used a rear seat from a Hiace van which was nearly identical to the standard troopy rear seat.
Then you have to get the whole shebang engineered for rego and insurance purposes as you have changed the seating configuration.
Also bear in mind that in NSW (not sure about other states) an 11 seater requires twice yearly over the pit at the RTA inspections as it has more than 8 seats and is classified as a public passenger vehicle. Rego and insurance will also cost more.

I bought an after market rear bench seat (3 seater) and had the company install it + compliance . Cost me about $1000 . The seat has a retractable belt either side and lap in the middle . I kept the very rear side facing seats just in case i need to carry 9 people anytime . In queensland an 11 seater is a mini bus . There are three types of rego in qld for passenger vehicles . 8 cylinder , 6 cylinder , 4 cylinder . We just pay our rego every year and the sticker comes in the mail . How easy is that .

I forgot to mention that the seat folds up against the front seats and i have carried wardrobes , small pool tables , single beds . Fold it back down again and there you go . Any aftermarket seating place has them .

excellent information; thankyou to all.
To Peter 2- I am in NSW so after reconfiguring the seats does the 11 seater RTA inspection still stick? (since it doesn't seat more than 8 anymore and approved by the RTA)
To glenno(qld)- Used to have a Troopy with no rear seats. I once moved a whole modular lounge! Gotta love the Troopy but now there are rugrats hence the forward facing seats for child-restraints. Which reminds me of an important point; anchor points! I presume another expense in the conversion from 11 seater to forward-facing rear?
