Hi Eric,

Good to hear you made it back and that you were able to catch up with other members.

It seems that there is a general dislike for the Pink Roadhouse, obviously all this ill will isn't getting through to these guys. Haven't been in their direction and it sounds like a place to steer clear of, so what is the problem with these people if you don't mind me asking.

Kind regards

Hi Musty

I was at Jiarna's 40th and we bush camped on a clay pan about 2km out of Oodna. We went into town for a guided tour with Jiarna and it included the Pink Place.

On the night of the party Adam actually drove his pink volvo out to the claypan where we were and gave a rather nice speech outlining the contribution that Jiarna had made to the town during the time he lived there.

Cheers
Muddy

I hold no special place for the Pink Roadhouse, and it may be that I have had a similar experience, but I would hesitate before destroying someones reputation on the basis of your experience alone.

Ah Bob C'mon.

"Destroying someones reputation" takes a bit more than a single post on an internet forum.

In fact you've added to the "Destroying someones reputation" by adding YOUR post (this one I'm answering) with your views.

You have in fact DOUBLED the EXPOSURE.
And now "I" TRIPPLE it.

Hhmmn makes me think Bob. That's very clever.

As Manwell the waiter says on Faulty Towers... "I learn ... I learn"

We ate at a couple of pubs in PA and the meals were all very good. Did you actually have a run in with a local at Woolworths, Eric, or was the fear just an instinct. We spent a day walking around the town and found everyone, without exception, to be polite and welcoming, even those waiting outside the court house for their cases to come up.

There are a lot of people in life that one meets that you either like or dislike. Don'6t know what happenned to you in Oodndatta and yes Adam can be a little let we say alternative but ifr it wasn't for Adam & Lynnie there would be none of the tourist signage that you would have seen all along your trip and some of it can be life saving across the desert. They have made a lot of maps with a lot of info and have done more for tourism in an area than anyone I know of. remember we are talking OOdnadatta here in the outback not Yuppy Melbourne.

G'day David,

I support where you and Bob are coming from but am keen to learn what happened because there have been at least 3 posts over the last 12 months about the Pink Roadhouse. Much like Rabbit Flats and a couple of other places that seem to get the negative comments.

Reckon most people, me included, will make up our own minds about the people when we get there. It just prepares us for our travels. I read the article on the Pink Roadhouse in one of the monthly mags recently and it painted a nice picture - unlike the message we get here from time to time from ordinary everyday people so I am to wonder what happens to make people dislike the place.

Nothing wrong with alternative - often get shoved in that pigeon hole myself.

Kind regards

"but ifr it wasn't for Adam & Lynnie there would be none of the tourist signage"

Those signs are a blight on the landscape, & fall nothing short of graffiti &/or blatant advertising. There are sufficient official signs in the desert!

Several people from our recent trip will be writing to the relevant authority asking for their removal!

Sorry shaker I have to disagree, as there is a great deal of info on those signs, and I for one read and photographed many on my recent trip up there. Yes they would have been for pink roadhouse benefit many years ago, which I am sure has paid for itself, but they have become an icon of that part of the outback and I believe you will hit a brick wall writing to the authorities as I am led to believe that the authorities have just payed him to renew most of them plus some, so I think they are there to stay so if you dont wont anything to do with them dont read them and miss out on different sites in the area that they relate to.
As for Adam at Pink roadhouse, I met him recently and yes I can see how he could be as described by Eric but he and others like Des have made that town what it is and even though its not great its better than Marree and others, and look at it from his point of veiw, after 30 years I bet he has met every sort of PERSON! on earth and I bet many would give you and me the shuts as well, so I guess he has hardened to the enviromernt, so he probably needs a change of scenery and yes im sure if we had to live out there we would only do it for the money too, why else???

Personally from my own experiences there, if there was detour around it .. I would take it!

For the position of Marree, gateway to much of the outback, not just a little bit like Oodnadatta, I think its the pits, try getting something welded up up there, or a trye fixed or even asking if there is a s/h shocker about ???
What a joke, poor old Eric Oldfield does what he can but there is very poor services there, and yes if you could drive around it I would too, I wont camp there anymore especially the CP in town, unless its changed recently its the pits.

Ok lets get something straight

Adam gets paid to put the sighnes in the desert . Also they are advertising his buisness.

ANYWAY , Why I hate his guts .

I broke a shocker in the painted desert , so i end up at Oodnadatta looking for help . I ask if the mechanis is on duty and was told he was having lunch , thats cool , so she walk overto tell Adam we will be waiting for him to finish , no issue here , we order something to eat and wait for mr adam. After he finishes , he just leaves withought talking to us , so we wait another 30 min. he finaly comes back , so we approach and ask him if he has a shocker for sale . He walks over and gets in his folk lift and picks up my cruiser from the tow ball about 6 feet in the air . I start having heart attacks . I ask nicely if he can lower it . No he walk off He gets to his rubish collection and pulls out a front shocker (second hand ) starts to tell us how shocker work . We explain that we undertsand all this we just want to buy a shocker . We ask if we can purchase his second hand shocket and can we pay him to put off the pin bolt and weld my eye to it . Another story starts. HE start to tell us about wheel articulation . I am still been polite at this stage . I explain that then is no shocker he can get me flown in that will do the job , thats its a custom set up. We walks off to make a call only to find out what we told him is the case. OK . can we now get you to weld it . He says , no go on with one shocker . Ok can we just buy it off you . Yes he says , you can have it for $100 dollars . We have now waisted 2.5 hrs just to buy a second hand shocker for $100 . We go see dess next door . Des can you weld this , no worries guys , we can do anything is the reply . Let me see if i have a shocker i can give you instead of getting exrtorted my d** head next door. He can find one and he still welds the shock that lasted my whole trip. What do I owe you Des ?? he is reluctant to say $20 . So we give him $40 and Adam( Crazy ) gives him a slab on my behalf . off we went . I only wish is that I can go back to Give Adam his shocker back so he can shove it up his claka

Cheers

Guys , dont get me wrong , if just cam out to tell us he can't weld , cool . If was straight to the point , and said all i have is this flogged out shock but i want $100 for it . Cool . I would have bought it and moved on. But dont stuff em about and then rip me off .We would have looked else were . We asked if mount dare had shockers , he replied , good luck they have nothing .
Let me tell you all that Mount dare has brand new shockers in stock from ARB for most popular models and sell then at standard retail price , they aslo had many other spares .

Des next door was a gentalman . Staight to the point .

Whilst Des was helping us , Adam from Pink RH walked to get des to do something for him . Was fantastic to hear des tell him to nik off and that he wa busy .

Good onya des , you made a friend for life

Hey Mate
Good to see you back in one piece.

What was the point in lifting the vehicle of the ground with the fork lift like he did?
Didn't he want to get his pants dirty?

You gunna frame that shocka as a memento?

I'm glad I only stopped at the Pink Roadhouse for something to eat and had nothing else to do with them when I was there last year, sounds like a strange bloke.

all seams cool when your not involved , let me pick up your car from the tow ball piviting on one fork of a fork lift and lift it till the bull bar almost toucher the ground ,

then have to sit there listening to a load of crap ,

i waited 1 hr , just to speak to the guy , then go through what i did .

Also Bob , I wasnt on my own , I had 2 other vehicles that I was delaying there trip . After a while it all adds up .

I tried to be nice / polite ect ect . I could see his hidden agenda a mile away . Keep him here , slug him on a new shock from adelaide , getting him for accomodation , dosnt take much to read between the lines mate.

I dont know about your fuse mate , but by the end mine was well lit

No worries Eric,
Now I understand, that is what I meant by alternate. I know he doesn't like anything that is not statndard and laughs at lifted suspensions etc. and would certainly though he had a wankerwhen seeing your car and no.plate - Hasn't changed in 30 years and never will.

Anyway I thought your car was lifted enough anyway. Why would he need the forklift to see under......lol.

OIf you hadn't had a problem you would have got a duifferent view of the place as I haven't seen him much out front.

G'Day Eric,

Glad you had a good trip. I think you did well to contain yourself. Me, I would have walked over and put the vehicle down myself, anyone stupid enough to lift a vehicle this way should be shot - perhaps a message on the link below may put things into perspective.
