I am looking for help with the towing capacity of the Mitsubishi Trition GLX-R V6 Petrol manual transmision 4x4 2005. I would like to tow approximatley 1800kgs but Mitshubishi say I can only tow 1500kgs. Is there anyone out there that has been able to get confirmation that the vheilce will tow 1800kgs. I have spoke to Mitshubishi and getting nowhere fast. Any help would be great.

I used to own V6 4x4 GLS 2000 model it was the same towing capacity - great vehicle except for towing and turning circle.

mitsubishi's site says 1500kgs but autoweb page says same TD model 2200kgs

The rta (NSW) will only go on the rating the manufacturer places, but as I said its been like that on petrol tritons for a while.

good luck with that

Hi bushy,

according to Mitsubishi it never has and never will be 2200kg. I have a copy of a letter(under Mitsu letterhead) delivered to another visitor here, which claims a retrospective increase to 1800kg. As yet I haven't managed to obtain my own but I live in hope...

Had a look around your site and I gotta say it all seems pretty unreliable. There are a lot of discrepencies(sp?) between the models.

There is also the fact that here in Vic at least, if the owners manual says 1500kg then that's it, unless you get something from Mitsu stating otherwise. The law states the towed mass may not exceed that towbar rating or the manufacturers maximum, which ever is lower.

The handbook should list it - but a rule of thumb is the max weight of a loaded braked trailer should not exceed the gross vehicle weight of the vehicle.

That used to be the old rego rule in most states but in some has been replaced by the manufacturers specifiction.

G'day Debbi,

a few here got confirmation that Mitsubishi retrospectively upgraded the towing from: 100kg(ball) & 1500kg(trailer) to 180kg(ball) and 1800kg(trailer). This upgrade was in writing on company letterhead but, their website and handbooks still say 100/1500. I'm still waiting for my letter, everytime I call to follow up on the progress, the lady handling it is out of the office...

Hi Blue
I have heard back from Mitsubishi and they say the GLX-R manual trans is only good for towing 1500 kgs. The reason for not towing more is the oil in the gear box will boil and that can not be good. Mistsubishi also told me that the auto and diesel have been down graded to 1900 kgs. I guess I will have to fix the other car to tow the weight. I talked to Kevin Taylor, Product Communications Mitsubishi Motors Aust. P/L phone and ask for him 1300 13 12 11. I also talked to the rta qld and they say the towing weight is what Mitsubishi say or 1 & 1/2 times the GVM unladden. Thanks for everyone information.

Hi Debbi, seems you can't get a straight answer out of anyone these days... Found the copy of a letter from Mitsu, which clearly states that towing capacities have been revised for the V6 manual 4wd models...

I stand corrected ! The hand bookstates that the TD cab chassis & club cab rate at 2200kg the max on the v6 AT is 2200kg but the man rates 1500kg.
That is straight out of the owners manual.
Hope that clarrifys things.
