Ruth from Birdsville Caravan Park
The Police have just advised me that the
BIRDSVILLE TRACK is CLOSED to all traffic. Rain started at 3:00 this morning. Last night's report was
Oodnadatta had 21 mm and
Alice Springs 28 mm. Not much here yet but raining quietly and steadily. It is thought that the
Cordillo Downs Road and road to
Windorah will also be CLOSED - 8:00 a.m. will be the time to find out. Not known at this stage how much rain at Mungarannie or
Marree - will advise when known.

Hi Ruth,
We travelled the lower end of the
Birdsville track yesterday when the rain was starting, and it was getting very greasy and slippery.
We'd just finished 2 perfect weeks away doing the
Hay River run from Jervois, but came out the K1 line, so missed out calling into
Birdsville.
Did Darren and the LCOOL mob get back into
the desert??
Cheers, and thanks for the great info
Phil

Darren told me you were out there - lucky things. Showed him the coming weather map and he headed out - think they should have made the good dunes before the rain. You were lucky with the weather. Wish we were doing that trip. Ruth

Thanks for the update Ruth.....I know you need the rain up there, but all I can say is ........."bugga"!!! lolol ;-)
We were going to be leaving tomorrow morning, and probably still will. It's just that we don't reckon we'll get as far as we first thought......probably have to plant ourselves in the Flinders for a night or 2 (I can think of worse
places to be holed up, eh?). Looking at the site www.transportsa.com.au reveals that all roads in the northeast corner of SA seem to be closed. The forecast seems to be for fine weather from now on, but I am wondering how long the roads are likely to take to be re-opened and also I imagine it would be even longer before the Simpson tracks are re-opened.
Oh
well, we will adapt our plans........a bad days camping beats a good day at work anytime!!!!!!!!! Just a shame that we won't get to meet a lot of EO blokes and sheilas at
Birdsville.
Say g'day to Willie, Judith and any others there that remember us.
Cya

Willie, Judith are comfy and content in their luxury CABIN!!! Have just made us poor workers Pumpkin Soup (delicious). Bazza, Kerry and Vanessa got in last night in their luxury Taj Mahal Camper trailer - so that makes 3 families (them and us) for the EO Party.
John R & Heather (I told him to get here from
Innamincka by Thursday!) are NOT here.
The supply truck with the food is ???? but we've plenty of wine & Beer.
Haha. Will go and give them your messages. See ya. Oh yes, taking to Desert Parks Rangers and they will bring out a new Simpson Bulletin today sometime.

Great to see Central Australia getting all this rain. Not good for those stuck out there but it will dry out quickly.
I am off to the
Birdsville Races this year and I would say there will be a "FIRM" track on raceday with all this rain. I am looking forward to our trip out there and a chance to give the Terracan a run in the outback with my Camper Trailer. Will have plenty of homebrew on board and looking forward to many "Happy Hours". It will be a 3 week trip (
Bathurst to
Bathurst) with about 5 days in
Birdsville to absorb the atmosphere and go to the races.
I expect the country side will look great by the time we get there which will be the Wednesday before the races.
Enjoy the rain and its long term benefits.
Cheers
The Bigfella
