Hi all new to the Forum i have just bought a 2.4D 1985 Dual Cab Hilux and has a oil leak which seems to be coming from one of the tappet cover bolts (3rd bolt from the front of the engine) ive spoken to a few mates and they said it was a common problem but they didnt know how to fix it. The second issue is the amont of black smoke it blows under power the injectors and pump have recently been done and the engine has about 10,000 kms since rebuild any help on these two things would be a great help !

Newey

1. When you are under power, up a hill or whatever, try lifting your foot slowly till you notice the power backing off, see how much smoke now. Quite simply, you could be wasting fuel by pumping in more than the engine can burn, which results in lots of black smoke.

2. Get a compression test done.

3. You did get receipts for that engine re-build, didn't you !!!

Tappet cover? You mean rocker cover right

1. Try tightening it up a bit more.
2. undo it and make a gasket up from some gasket material (Any auto part’s store), smear on some gasket goo and toque it up see how it goes.
