Townsville to Weipa - travel time ?

Hi,

I'm leaving for the big island in a couple of days, and will be heading North, eventually to Cape York.

I'll be stopping off in Townsville for a while, but have a fishing mate to meet at Weipa - anyone with an accurate idea of travelling time between Townsville and Weipa ?

I don't want to be travelling "flat out", but major side trips and sightseeing can be done on the return trip, after I've been up to the Cape.

Townsville to Cairns - Easy travelling on Hwy about 6 to 8 hours depending on traffic and rest stops.

Cairns to Weipa - Bituman to Lakelands, about 200km, nice trip. After that it is 600km of dirt and corrugations. When I did it in March it was an absolute shocker but it has been re graded since then so should be OK. Allow 9 to 10 hours from Cairns minimum.

6-8 hours? No way. If the traffic is BAD it might take five hours T'ville to Cairns normally about 4. Check out Travelmate it has a handy calculator for distances and times, can even give you directions to print out and follow while in the car.
