Hi All,

Have any of you camped at the above mentioned Parks? I'm pretty keen to get the tinny up there this winter and spend a couple of nights on the Murray.

I've got the Vic Parks Hattah-Kulkyne Map and it shows a couple of "nominated" spots but I imagine there would be several suitable sandy beaches to stay at once I got there and had a look around.

Any help/advice much appreciated.

hello browny you can camp all along the murray were ever you like there are many good sand bars from Wemen to Colignan .We have had good rain for the last couple of weeks this makes the grey river flats very slippery . but they do dry out with in a few days of sunshine .Away from the river within the park you do have to camp in the camp grounds.

Thanks Mall,

Was wondering if you'd been getting any rain.

Hi Browny

We camp at Retail Bend or Sextons every Easter. Both are on the river in State park so you can have fires, there are no fees & no "treated pine post disease" -Parks Vic haven't decided for you where you can & can't pitch your tent. Both spots have easy boat access. Sextons has more firewood but the river is shallower.

Rain certainly makes the clay very messy.

Great spot shame it's a bit far for a weekend from Melbourne.

Let me know if you need more info

Adrian,

Thanks Mate, I see "Retail Bend" on my map seems to be on the NSW side, is that the case? and "sextons" seems to be on the Vic side? It actually says Hattah Kulkyne Wilderness camp with Sextons in "comas" with a flying fox and stuff, opposite Dohertys bend (NSW side)

Thanks Mate........Browny

Both are on the Vic side but the island at retail bend is the only piece of Victoria on the other side of the Murray (useless trivia fact for around the campfire).

Sextons is the bend you get to if you stay on the track that runs along the left boundary of the Wilderness Lodge. Keep going through the trees down to the river and head south to the long beach.

Both are reached from the River Road.

I have GPS plots if that would help.

Some of the older maps don't have the bends correctly named.

Coming from Melbourne, the road via Manangatang is quite a bit quicker than the Calder.

You're welcome to give me a call on 0408 359 197 (btw, we met briefly at Wandin).

Browny

I have stayed there on a number of occasions, we use an area that has a great sandy breach and good fishing holes.
Give me a ring tomorrow and I will chase up my maps.
