We plan on coming down the CSR to Well 33 next month and heading out across the Kidson Track/Wapet Road to the coast. Can anyone give me information on Road Conditions and things of general interest that we may see. We are experienced travellers and well aware of the isolation.

I heard that there were 2 Patrols, a Cruiser and a Maverick (one group) stuck in the mud for two days... or maybe more since I haven't had an update! And around the mid-way point!

The trip isn't that hard. A month after heavy rains last year the track was extensively washed away. There are no particular 'must see' landmarks etc, but the whole track runs through spectacular desert country. There are some photos of the track on my website.
The first sight of the ocean after leaving the bitumen at Marla was one of the memories that sticks with you - not quite Burke and Wills at the Gulf, but pretty special.

You have taken some great photos. Always nice to have and know doubt bring back enjoyable memories.
I imagine the track will be badly washed after last seasons cyclones and recent rains. Do you recall whether or not the track was reasonably easy to follow without the need to continually use a Laptop.?
With thanks.

I think we would have been OK. There is a section with multiple parallel tracks that may have been a bit tricky.

We travelled the Kidson Track in May but belive theve had a fair bit of rain out there since then.As already stated ,fantastic scenery out there but not many land marks to look out for. There's a couple of big rolls of cable laying on the side of the track, apparently they fell off a truck years ago and there was no way of getting them back on the truck so they still lay there.
Some of the dune tracks need caution as they have large washouts just over the crests, there is some deep sections of sand ,narrow sections through the scrub to shine up your duco.Bit of everything but great fun.

About 50 Ks from the end ,(not sure about that) on your right are some rocky outcrops. There is a track into the base of one of them just past it . Drive in and climb up to the shallow caves along the face , thay are facing west . Have a good look , you mite be suprised at what you see, thay are faint , but thay are there . Cheers Errol
