Can anyone tell me why the
Warburton track is closed. Is it due to the current weather or road conditions ? Or is it normally closed this time of year.
We are planning to travel it in Sept so I would appreciate any feed back.

Not normally closed......rain a few weeks ago made it boggy and impassable.

If it does not rain between now and September you may be lucky to have it open when you are travelling by. This part of Central Australia normally gets a little bit of winter rain but the main body of water in
Warburton Creek is flood water from the Diamantina River which runs in to
Warburton Creek. It depends then on rain further to the north and just how long it takes for the waters to flow down to Lake Eyre, if at all. By all accounts flood waters of the heavy rains of late June in the northern Diamantina area should br flowing past
Birdsville and
Warburton Crossing by late August/ early Septermber.
