I have recently acquired a 89 landcruiser with a 2H diesel motor

On the weekend did the right thing and changed oils, filters etc. includung the fuel filter and this is where the problem starts
Read the book and pumped the lift pump as per instructions however after quite some time no diesel appeared in the filter or the bleeding nipple
The pump doesn't appear to be working at all
There is fuel at the pump, and I eventually got it going by filling the new filter with fuel before installing and then starting the motor.
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be??
Thank you

It can take a long time to pump it all through.

Normally undo the 10mm bleeder, then work the lift pump by unscrewing it , then pumping away, then screw it up again.

Cheers

Phil
That's what I did however after 1 hour of pumping I can to the conclusion that there was a problem (yes I'm a slow learner)
Then checked that there was diesel at the pump
It was not getting to the other side(filter side) of said pump
Thanks
Jaap

If I rememer right there was a little screen filter at this pump as well. I had the pump replaced when it started leaking from the seal at the base - it was not expensive I recall but its a while since I swapped the 2H for the V8 diesel.

Have you undone the bleeder nipple??? you have to crack it and then about 3 turns.Last lift pump that didnt work was in a Lister gennie. i pulled it apart and put it back together and it worked. Very simple items. There are 2 nipples comiing off the top of your fuel filter. from memory it is the right hand nipple like a grease nipple. you have to loosen it
