Hi,
How likely is it that the road across from Tumut to Canberra via the Brindabellas will be cut by snow during mid-September? Are there any rules about chains in that area?
Any info greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi Jon,

The road is rarely shut even when there is snow, and although the kids would love it I'd be very surprised to see snow up there then.

The road between Brindabella and Piccadilly Circus is steep, windy and in parts narrow and not recommended for caravans.

I did it a couple of years ago in a Barina after snow on tops. No worries. Front wheel drive and thin tyres made it quite easy. Piccadilly circus is rarely closed.

You should be right, unless there is a massive amount of snow.
I and several hundred others have done that road in July on fully loaded road going motorcycles for the Alpine rally thats held in that area. Got awfully interesting getting out after it snowed, in slush/mud with 1wd and a hangover.

Many thanks folks. Have gone from CBR to Tumut in early December without any dramas. I thought there may be an issue with snow in early Sep but from your replies it appears not.
Many thanks again.
