All fuel is cheap, until it becomes commercially viable. Then the government starts taxing it, and there you go, back to square one. All our sources of energy are severely taxed. Petrol would also cost 40c per litre if it wasnt taxed and oil companies didnt add their huge profit margins.
They would even tax water if we could find a way to extract energy from it. Solar and wind is the only energy that would be harder to tax, but even then they would start taxing the panels and wind turbines.
Two things are sure in life, taxes and death.

This is already available in Australia as Bio-diesel. Some private people are also running vehicles on vegetable oil. Federal Government had already indicated it would tax any form of alternative fuel
