Just had word from Innamincka that Walkers Crossing is no problem. There is a little ponded water on the gibber plain just off the Birdsville Track, but easy to avoid. SA Parks are being notified......but EXPLOROZ always has the latest.

If you have enough time while you're playing on Big Red, go a few more dunes. There's a salt lake a little off the track to the south, about 10km past Big Red, and from there to Eyre Creek is quite thick with flowers. Eyre Creek makes a nice picnic spot. It's only 35km from Big Red, which is only 35km from Birdsville.

There you go...and I said it may only be September. Anyway it is good news for all the travellers. Pity about being just too early for the flowers.

Well, Willem, if nobody else had checked, it would still be closed this time next year ! I think it comes down to a slight conflict of interest. Cattle people would keep tracks like Walkers Crossing & the Inside Track closed as long as possible, anybody with an interest in tourism likes to see them open ASAP, being such scenic routes.

It is a shame about timing re: flowers. We need the holidays to fall in August !

Now that we've had the flood, do we have to watch out for a plague of locusts or something ??

Karsten,
Off topic I know..........but when we there in Birdsville a couple of weeks ago, we were very taken with the small corrogated, galvanised water tanks at the Hotel. There was one in the dining room and another in the bar. Annette got me to walk back over from the c/van park to ask the staff about them (it was a 3 stubby trip...hehehe), but the people at the pub knew naught. I don't suppose you have any idea who sells them?
Sorry for hijacking the thread....
Cheers

Roachie.

We purchased one, two years ago from the co-op in Quilpie.
We were told at that time "no more were being made".
A friend has seen ours and is looking for one.
I have been looking for some time now but no body knows what I am talking about.
Great for parties. I made a tank stand to go with it. Looks good.

Sorry good not be of more help.

Regards

Thanks anyway Wim,
When I was at Birdsville last October, I don't recall seeing them there in the pub on that occasion, but they are there now.....so I'm guessing that someone is making them.
Will keep trying to find out.
Cheers

Roachie,

Guess I put my reply in the wrong "hole". Must happen when you're a newby.

Try Couzner's Tanks, Mannanarie Road Jamestown 08-8664 1473.

They make all types of small tanks, as well as small esky types. Ideal for the back of the truck.

No problem Roachie. Well done Michael (below). Yeah, the pub have got two. We've also got one in the courtyard of the Cafe (One of the Explorozer's was asking same questions). We actually won ours from one of the Pub Raffles !!! You've got to be in it to win it....
