Hi, I am finally going to order a camper trailer. The soft floor type, opens to the side. I want to be able to carry 4 push bikes plus mount some solar panels. I have 6 40w panels, probably only want to mount 2 or 3. So obvoiusly I need a roof rack. I have seen a couple of types, first type pivots to the right to allow the tent to open. Problem I see with this type is it would get in the way of loading the trailer. Second type has a vertical
water pipe just in front of the box. The rack pivots on this pipe and moves horizontally to over the A frame. They use a long jockey wheel at the rear to move the rack.
Anyone got any better ideas?

We have a boat rack that tilts to the side. We are still able to get into the side of the trailer as long as the rack is tilted and can still lift up the tent to access the trailer when the tent is up. Not as easy if no rack but still enough room to get between the rack and the side to fillup crates and lift them out if needed. Worked great with the boat would have been really p..ed off if we had to take the boat off every night to set up
camp, Dont know how would work with solar panels as you would have to set up
camp always to catch theright angle of the sun and sometimes this does not work out.
Cheers

Sorry cant help with the rack, but thought I would ask you as to what brand of camper trailer did you decide on...? Do you have a sunroom tent enclosure to go with it?
Im considering one too...just not sure if its going to be worth the extra drag, like you still need to put the tent up so to speak>>
let us know how you get on with it.

Thanks for the replies, I finally got back online to read them.
I was all set to buy a Freedom Trailer, then I dropped into Rods Engineering in
Maroochydore. Freedom is the best tent setup in my opinion with a steel trailer. At Rods I can buy an Aluminium trailer and could then have the same tent as the Freedom fitted. Either way would work out about the same price. I just have to decide if it is worth the extra hastle to get an Aluminium trailer.
The Freedom optrion is pay the deposit, wait for it to be built, pay the rest & go
camping.
The Aluminum option is buy the trailer from one place, buy & fit the bed base. Take it elsewhere for the tent to be fitted.
I still haven't sorted out a roof rack, I will probably get the trailer then eventually sort out the rack.
The extra room beside the draw bar is the best option to fit us all in so I will have this added.

ok, here's the dumb question: with these boat loaders/racks, once you've got your camper set up, how do you get the boat to the
water? Does everyone have a fold-up trailer or
camp near enough to the
water to drag the tinny over by hand? Help. I need to know.

Most either have a set of wheels or fold up trailer , or after intial travel , the Boat is roof topped.
