Hi all,
Has anyone out there made a jerrycan holder to fit on the back of a GQ wagon, preferable on the smaller door side. Had a search of the
forum but couldnt find anything. Im pretty handy type bloke so can make most things but would appreciate any ideas or maybe even a picture or plan to work from (some alterations to keep copyrights happy ) Appreciate any info i can get.
One other question for you out there, we have an offroad Jayco finch camper and eventually i would like to take it up
the beach (we do mainly offroad
bush camping) and was wondering is it better to have the Patrol loaded up more than the camper or vise versa when towing through the soft sand to get on
the beach .
Thanks all

Can't help with the jerrycan but I always found it easier to carry than drag.
Trailers etc are an anchor in sand.
Cheers

Get yourself someone's wide "throw-away" tires for the camper..I have taken my Aussie Swag into the very heavy sand-hills at Five Rocks above
Yeppoon,Qld,the trailer takes some pulling with the narrow standard tyres..I have to do the same as you..Don't need much tread on a non-braked trailer and they don't wear anyway..As no torque is being applied to the wheel, which could spin a tyre on the rim,you/we could safely drop pressure on trailer tyres to 6 or 8 psi, just make sure you drive for your sidewalls.Stakes ot sharp roots through walls.Be aware,we go in with our
water tanks filled in trailer, which as a fair weight above normal towing kgs..Helps..Rockyone!MPG:6!

I was in Boots yesterday and they have jerry holders to hold a 20 litre ready to go.
Quite light as
well.
All you would have to do is manufacture a bracket to mount it to.

G'day fireman,
As far as the jerry can holders go, on my GG I took the rear wheel carrier of the back, bought two steel jerry can holders, welded them together and made a T piece to weld too. The T piece was drilled and mounted to the wheel carrier holes, I got to take an extra 40 litres .....yes i can all hear you say 'but what about the weight'. The weight was no drama 2x 20L weighs (from memory) about 5kilos more than the spare wheel. As a precaution I also used a strap mounted from the T piece(welded a U bolt) to the door and just put a small amount of tension on it.
This worked
well for the 14,000kms we did. Not all on tar,
Plenty Highway,
Savannah Way, Roper Highway. Lots of dirt, rocks, sand and tar.
We too have a Jayco but only the Dove.
If you want I can get a picture for you
