Hi,

Going to Fraser in the September School Holidays and cant believe Ill not be able to light a fire at night to sit around.

Ive been told that you still can in the campgrounds.

The new beachfront waddy point campground sounds ok. Has anyone been there?

If so your comments would be so appreciated.

We usually just camp on the beach, but thought this may be a good option.

cheers.

you can have a fire in the campground (in the rings provided) if you bring your own milled timber.

Outside of that I'm sure that the lack of a campfire won't really take that much away from your overall camping experience.

I had a drive through the new campground and it does look very good, don't overlook the new Central Station campground or the new facilities at Dundabarra either.

hi geg,
at waddy you can have fires in the concrete rings provided in most sites. you must bring your own mill timber onto the island, the shell servo at rainbow beach sells it if you dont want to lug it with you.

the refurbished camp area at lower waddy looks ok and you can book sites, make sure you get a shady one. the upper camp area is inside the dingo fence and is closer to showers and toilets. the rangers keep an watch for noisy campers. when last there in april it was all quiet by 9.00pm.

i like the beach but on any of my trips when its windy waddy becomes home.

regards peter

Yeah thanks guys,

I just had someone else mention that the camping spots dont allow your vehicle in and get very overcrowded, this would mean that we couldnt use our lights that we plug into the car.

But if its windy on the beach I Waddy will be the place.

Think we may set up camp around Eli Creek, and close to Happy Valley.

Im not too interested in camping inland. I much prefer the beach.

Any other good spots worth considering?

camping grounds at Waddy and Dundaburra will pprobably already be booked out for the September holidays. They usually book out well in advance as September is a very popular month to go to Fraser

I was on Fraser in May of this year - and they have a TOTAL FIRE BAN. No fires of any kind, anywhere. The ranger even raised his eyes when I had a small fire just to get some heat beds working. Next trip I am going to Moreton - you can still have fires there.

Yeah Jack,

Im with you...never been to Fraser though. Moreton is closer, and the island doesnt take all day to get around.

But, Ill give Fraser a go just once, and ill use the barbeque to cook. I suppose we we can sit and watch ourselves at night and If I drink enough wine, I wont even realise there is no fire going.

Wonder who decides these rules?

cheers
