Hi all, I own a '92 4.2 injected GQ patroll with 270,000 clicks on the clock. It's been lifted body and
suspension and has 33's on it, trouble is that I used to get about 600 k's out of a
tank (90 litres) and that was after the mods were done however that has droped dramaticaly of late so that I now get about 350 k's, no one seems to be able to find out why. Any hints about where to look would be apreciated.

Well,,, the 33's will give you the odometer reading to appear that you are travelling less kms for your dollar.....
And if you have fitted a roof rack since doing all your original testing then that will be robbing you also...
Roof racks are WOEFUL.....

Mr Gorilla,
600 km's out of 90 litres is 15L/100km. That is unusually economical for a 4.2 GQ. They are more likely to use 20. My 1992 3.0L GQ used to use 20 and my old man's 4.2 (1992) used a little more.
Given the bigger tyres (assuming you haven't had the speedo corrected) 350 km's would possibly be a genuine 400 km's or more out of your 90 litres which sounds fair to me.
Cheers,
Jim.

A couple of things to consider;
1. your speedo is probably out by about 7%
2. your (effective) gearing has changed taking the engine away from its peak torque
3. you have more air drag as a result of the lift and wider tyres
So you a likely getting 375km per
tank, better but not good.
Whats the compression like, and are the valves seating properly?

Yea everyone is sayin ya speedo is out this is out this is bigger, but those things arent going to make your truck worse by close to 50%
15/100 IS a good run for a TB42- the poll on the GQ list vast majority were 18/100 or worse..
What have you done so far to fix the issue?
Filters?
- fuel etc?
- timing?
- servicing?
- air filters - what sort are you running
Borrow a set of 31s for a day, see what happens.
