Hi there.

I'm off to Roxby Downs again this week. The plan is to camp on Bosworth Station near Lake Torrens for about five nights. After that I hope to spend some time on Arcoona and maybe make another trip to Andamooka.

Those of you who were conserned for my welfare with the wheelbarrow wheels on the trailer will be pleased to know that I've had a re-build and fitted car wheels and axel.

With the extra axel load I'm able to take such luxuries as a chair, a cast iron skillet and a camp oven. I'll be looking out for somewhere to camp with some firewood and will enjoy a vegetarian roast and a cheery fire.

When I'm at Roxby Downs between photographic trips, I'll try and get a few digital photos up on the net and advise the forum.

A photo of the rebuilt trailer can be seen at Laurie's Photos

Regards,
Laurie.

I carry a can of the tyre repair spray you mentioned also but consider it a last resort measure. I have heard that whilst it does the job to get you out of trouble it quickly eats into the tubes / tyres if you leave it in there? You have obviously used it, can you give comment?

Trevor

Nice photos by the way

G'day Trevor.

I, too, have heard about the product ruining the tyres over time. There would also be a ballance problem in a high speed vehicle.

It got me going for another trip, wheras I would have had to leave the trailer home along with my spare wheels, fuel and tent.

I think it's an amazing product. There were more pinholes in the tubes than you can point a stick at. It sealed them. I just put a little air in the tyres each morning and that was it for the day.

For my coming trip I've bought a bottle (not pressure pack) of green stuff that you put in all tyres before the event and leave there. I'm keeping it as an emergency measure.

For slow leaks I'm counting on pumping the tyres up and keeping going. If the leak is bad enough to see where it is, I can fix it with a tubeless tyre plug. I've got plugs and tools.

No doubt, the pressure pack product would be fine for a 4x4 tyre but it's success would be dependant on catching the problem before the bead is broken and/or the tyre ruined.

I'd rather put my trust in the spare tyre and jack, but my foremost straturgy is "drive to arrive."

Pleased you like the photos.

Regards,
Laurie.

Thanks David.

I got the wheels and hubs at the tip. It's rather a low budget opperation.

I see any number of rigs that would go 50 grand and some that might go 100 grand all up. Bit of a difference.

Regards,
Laurie.
