Mate, I did that trip (from
Karumba,
Normanton,
Burketown, Hells
Gate, Booraloola,
Roper Bar,
Mataranka) in March, back in 1999. We had no worries at all as far as wet roads go, but every season is potentially quite different.
Good luck mate

Mate March can be a tossup depending on how late the wet lasts and how big. We go up to Limmen Bight around
easter each year and while they only had 50mm in feb this year it was a breeze (but the barra were hard). In 2004 early
easter left late March, and a good wet and we were held up at the Limmen
River Crossing one night. Road direct from
Cape Crawford gets very boggy and while it is a lot longer the trip thru Booraloola is sounder going but gets to be just a paddock track in
places between Booraloola and where it comes back onto the main road. Locals mark washouts pretty
well with rocks and
hazard markers but really the wet will control everything. Can ring the rangers at Nathan River National
Park or Steve and Patsy Barrett at the fishing
camp for road info. Steve is usually the first into
Katherine after the wet.
