I know this is gonna sound dumb, but...
What is the "Idle-up" rocker switch in my 60 supposed to do? Doesn't appear to increase the revs, has no mechanics connecting it to the carbie (at least none I can see). It's not mentioned in any of the manuals I've bought or the owners handbook in the glovebox.
OT - Why do we still call them gloveboxes? Can't ever remember seeing one with a pair of gloves in it. :-)

Most cars have an idle up switch for when the A/C is switched on - but it is connected to the A/C system and activates automatically - dunno about a manual switch

The idle up for aircon is called "fast idle", which is activated by a vacuum hose on the carby.
An idle up switch is more likely to be for keeping the revs at about 1200 rpm for running a PTO or charging batteries when stationary.

Muzz has it right.
The idle up only increases the revs about 300 rpm. how ever with constant tuning the carbs get ill adjusted.
have a look for the vacuum switch on the passengerside wheel arch. Make sure it still works when you hit the switch. then all you have to do is follow the vacuum line to th carbie and re adjust the arm so it increases the idle when you hit the switch.

Thanks to all for taking the time to reply. I'll check out the vacuum stuff on the weekend.
