Adventure Campers - looking for feedback from owners of Adventure Campers, the good points and the bad points, in particular the Pilbara model. Can you think of any improvements that can be made at the construction stage that could make it better?

G'day Blampied,

I've had a Pilbara since January and love it. I shoot the photos for the Adventure guys, and we've just been out on a quick 7 day shoot to Innamincka and surrounds. It was my first time in the outback (since I was 5) and the Pilbara was brilliant. It tracks so beautifully behind the vehicle I usually forget it's even there. We were on a tight schedule so we really flogged the trailers travelling at up to 100km/h down unmaintained dirt tracks. I got airborne a few times and bottomed out badly on a few washouts knocking the rear flares out of place on the Patrol, but no problems on the trailer. We didn't even break a raw egg in the fridge.

Improvements in construction stage hmmm.... make it out of solid gold ;) Nahh, it would weigh too much then.

We got the extra room option for our (future) kids. We've not used it yet, but we found having the extra door at the back of the camper is fantastic. When we are set up in camp for a couple of days with the awing & walls we use the extra door almost exclusively to get into the bedroom. I mentioned to the guys that they should make the extra door a standard option with or without the extra room. (I'm sure you could request it anyway.)

You also want to have the rubber matting they use to go under the tent & awning areas. Keeps the tent bottom clean & helps protect it from sharp stones etc, and gives you a floor to the awning area. This is something you can get later.

We didn't get it, but should have, marine carpet to the storage area. It helps stop stuff sliding around. The storage area is huge, and unless you have a vast amount of gear, you won't fill it and things will slide around. I'm thinking of asking for it next time I'm in Adelaide.

We also got larger tyres to match the larger than standard tyres on our Patrol. 285's instead of the 265's you get standard on the Pilbara.

I think that's about it. Also the Adventure guys are great, we've been camping with them a couple of times now, and really enjoyed ourselves. After this last trip (Got home on Saturday), I suggested they start doing Tag along tours in addition to trailer manufacturing, but I don't think they have the time :)

Thanks,

Aaron.

Hi Blampied,

We own the "Cape York" version and I've got to agree with the other comments. I tow it behind a troopy and you really don't feel the thing off- road at all. We've not had anything damaged inside and generally manage to fill the storage area whether we need to or not. The stoneguard is brilliant in reducing dust at the back of the truck (mine is the mesh version). I really love it when we open the tent and it's completely water and dust free!! - (when looking at the others in the area I mean)

I too used carpet in the storage area and in the storage bin on the A frame. nothing slides or bangs about. I use the same 16 in rims and tyres of the troopy and it works fine.

A liitle thing we've used are some plastic blocks from TJM that allow load spreading of the bed support legs in sand. Handy little things that you can use to stop the spread of the NTs brown ant s as well.

I get envious looks stopping for a brew with the awning unrolled while the others have to slide out their kitchen in the rain or hot sun.

I use the interlocking rubber tiles from Clark rubber as underlay for the ground sheet part of the bedroom and they work fine.

Modifications: more 12V outlets at the front of the trailer.
a tap on the A frame for hand washing

Great idea, works well and lives up to all the advertising.

Hi Chris,
12 volt sockets can be easily installed on the front of the camper if needed.
The Pilbara comes standard with an external tap for washing your hands etc this tap is connected to the front 59 litre water tank.
Both of these can be installed on your camper.
Feel free to call me if you want to know more.
I am actually fitting an extra tank to a customers trailer today with the water level indicator.

Regards
Paul
