DONT DO IT
Sorry I just do not like these cheap generators, they make to much noise and spoil
camping for others. The inverter type are much more expensive but much much quieter.

I don't use one
camping... because I don't like doing to others what I don't like done to me.
I do, however, need one for our own (large-ish) property. We run a caravan site until our house is built and also need power around the property to do odd jobs that need power.
These units are NOT all that loud at 5-6 metres away ( a couple of dB louder than a Honda Eu10) and represent terrific value for money if you have to have portable power.
Honda 2kw jobbie: $over $2,000
Aldi 2kw jobbie: $299
Easy equation if you don't have to rely on it all day every day.

For what you are going to use it for it sounds great!
I was not trying to be a pain, but scince the influx of these cheap type generators to the market I have noticed many more being used when
camping.

Each to his own. I can not afford $1500 or $2000 for an item that willbe used 4 times a year.
We DO use one while
camping, BUT not anywhere where others will be inconvenienced.
I have a 750 watt GMC which runs at the end of a 30 mt cord. At that didtance it is just low background noise. The last time we used it next to a flowing
creek, it could not be heard above the noise of the
creek.
Mine cost me $99 and I have used it for over 2 years.

hope you realise that the db scale is not linear...but logarithmic...meaning a couple of db can be a considerable increase in loudness depending on where it plots on the scale

Vince - agreed. They are really quiet if they are a few metres away. I've used ours now for several hundred hours, and it hasn't missed a beat. I ran 25:1 mix for the first dozen hours and then the proper 50:1 after that. I'm keen to go the 4-stroke because I always forget to get oil :(
Peter - I also agree that there are far more out there in campsites next to me these days......

Darwin?)

yeah I bought a Yamaha job for $1500 but it is a beautiful thing, quiet and 2.8KVa. I can't help thinking at $299 how long will it last, how loud willit be..?? The list goes on, price is awesome for 2000w..!

Thats the point though isn't it.
For someone who uses it only once or twice a year . . . $1500 is a lot of money.
My olds bought a Honda 4 stroke , and you damn near have to be sitting on it to hear it , quite as . . . you pay for that though.
How long do they last . . . actually , who cares ?
Most have a 1 year warranty . . . break down . . . take it back.
If it lasts a couple of years . . . bonus. Could buy a few spares for the price of a goodun.

At that sort of price you could rip out the 240 volt part and put in a 130 amp car alternator. Makes short work of topping up your battery at the end of the day, given the right type of battery.
14.4 V x130 A = 1870 watts
with an Odyssey battery (almost unlimited charging current) you would be done by the time you got your tent up. (1 hour)

1. I don't like being downwind of two stroke fumes.
2. I don't
camp near others so I don't have this problem.
3. If some bugger wants to run a genie good on em, I won't be there anyway.
4. I can see how gennies (especially at these prices) would be very cool while
camping, as long as you're not near anyone else, But personally I don't have the room to carry one (we are overfull as it is).
5. If I need 240v I use the pure sinewave invertor, if I need charging I run the motor. ( reckon as far as other campers go, they'd prefer a quiet genny and two stroke fumes to my diesel rattling away smelling everyone out).
6. Not everyone has $1000+ bucks to throw at a generator.
I think that pretty much sums up my thoughts on the subject! ;-)
Great value BTW!

As much as I hate to pass this on as in this "me" society the reality is that all you can hear when
camping now-a-day are blood* generators. But here goes- Mitre 10 are advertising generators for $89. Damn crazy.
