fibreglass flares and rust

Have heard of a few bad experience's with flares and rust forming around them.
Thinking of getting those neat fibreglass ones from ARB for my Rodeo.
Does anyone know how they actually mount them, do they drill into the underside of the guards?
I'm a little hesitant to get them fitted if in 2 or 3 years the paint around the flares starts to bubble and rust comes throu.
A friend had them on a forerunner and the rust all around the flares was hideous.

i ditched the fibreglass flares on my troopy, they used to hold that much crud.

for a vehicle that sees any beach they are a bad idea IMHO

I've decided to get them fitted, i guess i'll just have to clean them quite often.

I've got the wide A/T tyres on my Troopy and after driving on muddy roads I get a lot of mud flicked up on the Troopy, sometimes even onto the side mirrors. I was thinking of fitting flares, but after reading these posts I think I will forget about that idea and just clean the mud off.

After my last trip I still have a fair bit of mud stuck under the car, a job for the gurney.

I have fibreglass flares, from FRP in QLD, on my Patrol because i needed them so I could put the 16x8 wheels on. My Patrol is a DX that came with 7.5 split-rim steels and no factory flares.

After a trip to the outback, I was doing some work on the car and had to take the front flare off and I was amazed at the amount of compacted red dust that was there. It was holding moisture as well and has discoloured the paintwork behind there too so I can see where rust could happen if left alone.
I now have a regime of removing the flares periodically (read when I think of it) and cleaning out the crud.

cheers for the info!, thats a good idea, ive got a tray back, so only got them on the front, it shouldn't be to much of a hassle pulling them off every now and then for a good clean.
