Hi All,
I was just wondering if anybody has any information on fuel comparison between a V8 6cyl and a Turbo Diesel.
Somebody told me that a V8 is a lot more economical than a 6cyl but I find this hard to believe.

Andrew,
I have a 2003 turbo diesel. Around town I get between 10 and 12 litres per 100 km, depending on how heavy the traffic is. With a boat on the roof rack and towing a 3 tonne laoded up Bushtracker caravan on a 7,000 km trip including some 4 wheel driving and other driving without the van (30-35%) we averaged 16.5 litres per 100 km.
Hope this helps
Mike

My son bought the V8 and I bought the TD both 04 manual models with the same options we both filled up and did a road trip of about 600k then we filled up again, the V8 used 17.5/100 and the TD used 11.6/100, he followed me at my pace so I figure it was a good comparison, the V8 has more instant grunt, he has fitted extractors and a 3” system and the fuel has dropped to 16.5 and the sound is a full 10. and since the fuel has started climbing I haved slowed up from 105kmh to 100kmh on a trip and have started averaging 10.8L100.

One of the motoring organisations recently gave the costs of owning various cars and found that the V8 LandCruiser was cheaper to own than the TD LandCruiser.
I think thats because of lower purchase costs, servicing costs, rising diesel prices etc
Fuel isn't everything I guess

4.5 petrol 6 cyl 100 series around town 17L/100ks.
towing camper trailer 20L/100ks.
I now drive a diesel 100 series have not worked out fuel usage yet.
I just done a trip to teewah beach
rainbow beach and a few of the tracks lot of soft sand driving. I think I got around 15L/100ks. my petrol 100 s would have used way over 20L/100ks for the same trip.

Hi Andrew,
mine is 2004 T/D auto I have just returned from a trip to
Exmouth,
Coral bay, and
Monkey Mia. Did 3386 Klms towing full size van (see picture) mostly
sitting on a 100klm an hour only taking it out of "D" back to 4th when I felt it
necessary, did about 100 klms without the van on and used 572 lts of diesel.
Which works out to about 17lts per 100 klms. Trip down South without van
averaged about 10 lts per 100 klms. This was my first trip with a van in this vehicle
and I was most impressed with the car.

Morning All.....
We have a 98 105 Series, NA Diesel, and that gets between 10 and 11L/100 km with a combination of city and a few 1-2 hour runs here and there.
It has a few bits and pieces installed, and weighs in at 3 tonnes with 2 adults and 2 kids on board.
I also run the split-rims on narrow tyres (48psi) - I feel that gives fuel economy a nudge in the right direction..
Cheers,
Chris
