Found multiple big cracks in mine, replaced it. Have heard that this is a known Patrol GU problem - dealer/factory issued advice? Cannot remember where I heard this. Any further info? Have searched archives, found nothing.

Seeking fix for shroud fitting prob. My mechanic fitted the new Nissan Gen fan and found that the shroud when fitted rubs the core of the radiator (hope I haven't misquoted him). He has good connections with a reputable Nissan workshop (NOT the one I have mentioned in previous posts!) and they advise that it is a known problem which thay have not been able to fix either. Has anyone else encountered this?

In case it is relevant, I have a Patrol 2000 4.2TD.

Cheers,

Patrolee

I had a radiator shroud chaffing on the core on an old vehicle of mine and we fixed it by gluing a 1" square of 1mm aluminium sheet on to the core where it was chaffing.
Might be a solution if it is only making contact on a couple of points, a much larger area might need another answer.

Is it possible to shim the shroud so that it clears the core by fitting some washers under the attachment screws? Might even be the screws distorting the shroud when the are tightened.

Patrolee,
Nissan released a Technical Bulletin a long time ago for your concern. Any Nissan dealer can fix your problem.

Thanks Sevo. How does one get hands on the bulletin? Is it only avail to dealers? After my last dealings with my local Nissan Dealer, I am keen to work with anyone else (almost!). Does the fix you mention refer to the shroud or cracked fan prob?
Cheers, Patrolee.

the nissian fans are not the best in the patrol to be honest.
my terrano runs a patrol fan and its very common and expensive when they lose a blade.

the shroud is a different kettle of fish there is a reason that the top of the shroud gets worn away. Its not just a nissan problem my fj 60 the terrano and my fiat spyder yet alone my 300zx twin turbo did it as well.

Fix your sagging tranmission mounts that is the reason your fan chews out the shroud.

When the radiator is out the marks are very evident where the two round lugs of the shroud sit. Put 2 approx 3cm diameter round patches of sikaflex or similar where the lugs rub. problem solved. Suggested by radiator repairer after he fixed the leaks it caused on mine. If you leave it the lugs will wear holes in the core. Have since upgraded to a copper core with a closer pitch on the core and done the same on this.

what sort of symptoms did you have that caused you to look?

I have recently started hearing some "drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" noises (when cold) seemingly from the front centre over and above the normal diesel "dakadak...". I'm getting it checked soon by my mechanic, so it would be nice to know if its related.

Stuart, my mechanic found the prob when he was working on another $$$$ prob - leaky injector pump. So, sadly, I cannot help you with any clues.
