Does anyone know of any digital maps available (suitable for OziExplorer) with street map details of major centres (especially capital cities) in Australia.
In others words - the equivilant of UBD compatable with OziExplorer.
Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,
there are Digital UBD maps available and there are some .map files for them so they can be used with OziExplorer. Just not sure of where to source them, but I have seen them around before.
Sam.

BTW Explorer - Are you the same person that uses the name "The Explorer" in the Geocaching world?

Thought so. I go under the name of Drogger and have been to your caches at "Cattlemans Camp", "B-Limey" and "The Paps". I live in
Australind and work in Bunbury for DOE. Might meet up with you one day.

Yes - I did notice your BY number plate - hope you enjoyed Cattleman’s
Camp - appears (based on logged visits) not too many people are as keen as you! See you around.
Cheers

Yes - I did enjoy Cattleman's
Camp. And will head back that way again one day to follow the track all the way to
Black Point.
I recommend that anyone else who tries to find it should run a long length of string behind them - so they can find their way back out again.
Cheers

Have you looked at destinator from the
shop on this site.
I am sort of hoping to buy that one day for navigation so that I can just have a PDA for both moving map and navigation software.

Why? About double the price of OziExplorer- but I don't see double the features?

There are some interesting points made about Destinator and one of its utilities here.

Thanks Pluto, some good comments there!
Jay Gee - I'm not sure if you realize that Destinator and OziExplorer are two very different bits of software.
OziExplorer is used for moving map etc on larger scale maps
Destinator is used for route finding on street maps
These are chalk and cheese

Hi Alan and Pluto
I did notice the subtilty - but still don't see the value - in my particular case.
And - one can still load smaller scale street maps into OziExplorer and plan a track. Hence my original query - I am after smaller scale maps.
Maybe it won't plan the route for you - but I don't need that functionality.

Try The Map
Shop
always very helpful. I run Oziexplorer on the laptop & PDA as
well as Copilot on the PDA, the best mapping option for city navigation.
Hope it helps.
Cheers Brad

Jeff,
I notice you're in WA. If you're after a UBD style directory for
Perth, the StreetSmart 2005 directory is available from DLI (What DOLA used to be called) in Midland. The CD is around $20 from memory, and the map is an ECW image, so you can import it straight into oziexplorer (and get ozi to generate the map file).
I use this (and have converted it to OZF3 format) running on my PDA. No problems at all.
Hope this helps some.............
John
