As Frontera's are built in America the 80 Litre fuel
tank is situated in front of the rear
wheels. An inspection underneath the car behind the rear
wheels shows that the original design allowed for the fuel
tank to be positioned there.
Is there a quick fix to install a second
tank in that position, eg. a Rodeo fuel
tank will match the caged nuts that are present on the vehicle?
Also, can anyone tell me what names the Frontera's were marketed under in the US, UK and Japan?
Any help is appreciated.

HI,
I don't know about a quick fix on that one but there is certainly space to fit one behind the rear axle. I was told some time ago by a guy on the Isuzu website that it apparently is an anti collision requirement in the US for the
tank to be in front of the rear axle to prevent it being ruptured in a rear end collision.
In the US it is still manufactured and sold as the Rodeo, nothing like standardising names hey. Do a search on Isuzu Rodeo and you will find out a bit. In the UK it is sold as the Vauxhall Frontera so if you google that you will also get results. It is all the same car which is made by Isuzu and it enjoys good sales in the US and UK but didn't do as
well in Australia. GMH decided to drop it and the Jackaroo in favour of the Adventra program it appears and from what I can gather that has been a big backward move. Currently the only new real 4x4 by GMH in Australia would be the Rodeo I think.
The Vauxhall version comes in either diesel or petrol as
well.
You hear a lot of rumours that GMH are about to go back to something to fill this gap but I am not sure what it will be as yet.
Hope this helps a bit.

Brian,
Holden didn't have much choice with the Rodeos and Jacks,
Isuzu decided to stop making cars to concentrate on trucks and diesel engines.
Jackaroos are have been gone for some time and the rights to build the Rodeo sold off.
The last rumour is they want to bring out the H3 Hummer from the US and there will be a re-badged Daewoo to take on Kluger/Territory.
Cheers Moz

Hi Moz,
From what I gather on the Isuzu site and also Vauxhall in the UK the Frontera or Rodeo is still being made and sold. It just seems to be a decision made by GM not to import them into Australia any more.
This seems to be different to the fate of the Jackaroo as it would appear they discontinued making it completely.
I just wish they would get their act together.
Have a good one mate.

Brian,
Agree that Holden need to do something especially when they were riding a wave of popularity 5 years ago they should have organised a full-sized 4x4 back then when they seemed to have a model for every market. Another story I read was that next year's Commodore won't have a wagon so there won't be any more Adventras.

I'm not sure which year Frontera you are talking about (guessing the wagon shape) however I have this info.
On my 1997 Rodeo the fuel
tank is on the drivers side under the tray. However there are mounting holes in the chassis rails behind the rear axle which line up perfectly with the mounting holes in the Jackaroo/MU/Frontera of the late 80's/90's (maybe other years???). Some of these rear tanks had brackets that welded to the chassis but others bolted on. So go for the bolt on brackets. However to fit the
tank you would be need remove the spare wheel winch.
Another problem would be the filler. The rear
tank is standard on the Jackaroos however there was an optional second
tank which sits in the same position as my original Rodeo
tank on the drivers side. These twin tanks had twin filler doors. So you would either need to fab a system which filled both from the same filler or do some panel work.
Fronteras are also sold as Rodeo, MU and Amigo I think.
Hope this helps.

From what I've seen driving round, 2 door ones are Amigos, and the four door is a Rodeo, see quite a few round here, New
York, and some monster local built 4X4's.

To your fist Q...no there is no quick fix to fit a second
tank and it all depends on how much you want to pay or how handy you are at sourcing the required items as to whether its affordable. Yes I do believe a Jackaroo or MU(smae as Jack)
tank would be a near on bolt up fit..nothing a tape measure and your time couldnt determine for sure.
As to filling it....you can get duel filler pipes fitted to your original flap, expensive and labour intensive. You might be able to get a second filler outlet installed in the side of your vehicle, ie mirror the original one..again fiddly and expensive.
As to whether you can get a Y pipe fitted into the standard hoses will depend on the angles etc and Im not convinced on how effective that would be when it comes time to fill up.
You can get very good quality muliti
tank change over solenoids, that also allow the fuel sender to swap signals and the
tank supply at the flick of one switch.
So as to your question..yes it can be done..but done easily...I dont think so, it will be complicated but it all depends on your determination!
Goodluck with it!
Matt.

Just adding my $.02 worth here.
In Japan trhey are known as an Isuzu wizard and there are quite a few imports of that name around in NZ but they have the spare wheel put down there.
Seeing as the price of petrol is going up and up have you concidered a gas conversion. A few years ago I found one in the eastern suburbs of
Melbourne that used that space for the gas
tank.
If you find a regular
tank that fits in there let me know.
