G,day, after moving my roofrack all around my shed to get to things, ive decided to put it back on the Patrol for good. Now, by adding one of those wind deflector's to the front of it, will that cut down the wind noise, or possibly make it worse, and will it improve on my lost fuel economy?

Thank's in advance.

Hi Paul,

I believe they do help with both wind noise and consumption. I made my own out of a piece of 9mm ply as the shop ones seem a bit expensive. I used good quality cable ties to fix it to the rack and painted it. I think you need to make sure as little air as possible can go under it for it to be really worthwhile.

I don't actually leave the rack on full time as I can't fit into the car park at work with it. I rigged up some pulleys (hardware store, they are usually used for shade sails) in the roof of the carport and even though it is a full length steel rack I can put it on and off by myself and it just sits up in the roof when not needed.

Tim,

Do you have a pic of your pulley setup? I was thinking of doing similar in order to improve the # of car parks I could fit into too.
