Hoping someone can help me with a problem on a 2000 patrol 4.2td.
When starting engine when cold a miss develops but is fine once it warms up.
Injectors have been out and tested as
well as the glow plugs (both are fine)
Any ideas???

You have to allow the glow plugs a little longer, even though the light goes out the glow plugs keep glowing for a few more seconds.
That fixes the missing when cold in cold climates.

Completely agree.
Many assume that the glow plugs are on only while the light is on. Wrong!
If it's very cold, turn the key, wait for the light to extinguish, wait further till you hear a relay click (That's the glow plugs turning off) THEN start.
Cheers

The glow plug timers can give problems but with the patrol you can over ride them.
Once the light goes out and you here the timer click out, turn the key towards the start postition very slowly and you will here the glow plugs click back in. You can hold them in that position as long as you like. An extra 10 seconds in the cold usually makes all the difference.

Run a couple of tanks of Good Quality injector cleaner through, you'll probally find you've got a leaky injector seal and it's letting fuel leak in overnight casuing a miss on startup and heaps of smoke.
I had this problem with my Rocky, my mechanic at the time reaplced the glow plugs and it solved the problem for about 1 week, then he told me to either spend $$$ and replace the injectors or run some cleaner through it. I opted for the injector cleaner, never had the problem again!

I'm pretty sure this was covered a while back and the problem was solved by using glow plugs specifically intended for colder climates (NZ) Do a search of the archives and your questions may be answered. In really cold conditions I actually turn the key on twice to help the engine fire.
Cheers
