What's the better map of The
Kimberley's, especially for the GGR?
The DOLA or HEMA?
Same price, same scale, but which is clearer and has the best information?

If you are referring to electronic maps go for Hema. The paper Hema maps are also good but won't last as long

Hi Chris,
I have used the HEMA map and it is fine. If you are looing for detailed information on the area, often with good mud maps and track notes, can I suggest Ron & Viv Moon's book, the
Kimberley - an Adventurer's Guide. I think it is available through this site, but also in all good book stalls. It was most helpful to Jan and I last year.
Mine was beginning to be an old edition so I passed it on to some travellers we met along the way. We'll be getting the latest edition before venturing up that way again.
Happy
camping,
Mike and Jan.

I also have Ron & Viv Moon's book, it's great. But I want a proper paper map too.
I use mostly Hema maps myself of the
Vic High Country near where I live but of late have found the Rooftops maps to be clearer and easier to read. Was wondering if the DOLA maps were a good alternative to the Hema ones for the
Kimberley.

Crikey. I've seen it all now. When I saw the title of the post I thought some sheila had lost her map. When you find the map have a look at the name of the that region near the top of WA (there is no "S")

Bob,
A lot of people refer to the
Kimberley as the
Kimberley's because there is an East and West
Kimberley.
You are correct, there is only the
Kimberley, but as above it is affectionately known as the plural version.
Geoff.

Geoff
you mean like going to the Sydneys (there are North and South Sydneys).
I reckon the people who say Kimberleys imagine that they are referring to a mountain range (like the Snowies, or Himalayas)
I know a lot of people over a long period of time have used the plural, but as a
forum about Australian Travel I think we should try and get geographical information right.

It all depends on how pedantic we become I guess.
There is also the Flinders Range, but people call it the
Flinders Ranges.
Where do you stop when telling people to stop using their affectionate names for things.
have a good one Bob,
Geoff.

the Governor of South Australia. Talk about suck.

Geoff,
I stand corrected. But you should also advise Westprint, Hema and Auslig as they have got it wrong too.

For those that are interested I have nearly finished compiling my second digital map CD (first one was South West WA availble for sale in exploroz
shop). It will have all of the
Kimberley at 50,000 scale (utilising ~430+ NATMAP "Army' Maps), calibrated and ready to go with OziExlorer. Only have about 100 to finish and will be ready for sale...so stay tuned.
Cheers
