Due to pick up new diesel SR dual cab auto in a few weeks having the suspention done and an ARB bull bar and whinch fitted but as for the wheels and tyres15" 16" or 17"'and what size tyre looks the best.Any photos of any new Hilux with better rims and tyres would help, saved a heap buying the SR 8k cheaper then the SR5 could`nt see extra value in the SR5.I can get hold of a set of SR5 15" rims what`s the max` dia, tyre you could put onto them. Thanks for any info,

ARB have a tricked up Hilux with 16" wheels shown in the Sept issue of 4X4australia mag. (yes Sept, dont ask me I know its Aug) page 32. I think Toyota got a job lot of 15" wheels of EBay. No one can tell me the advantage of 15" other than they look fatter than a 16". If its all down to looks then its a bit shallow. I will be interested in how you go. Keep us posted.

I am putting 17's on mine when I finally get it. As for what size it all depends how far you are willing to accept the overall diameter to change, you don't want low profile tyres on 17" wheels on a 4WD, so you'll end up with a 3-5% change / increase in the rolling diamter by going with either 265/65/17 or 275/65/17 combos. You can check this out yourself by going to :

Many of the dealers in Melbourne have SR5 Dual Cabs fitted with the 17" combos I have listed above. Your speedo will be out by 3-5% also but this can be corrected with aplastic adapter. (Speak to your dealer)

Tyres for the 16 inch rims have higher load index, and are stronger than tyres for 15 inch rims.

90series Prado 16x7 rims used to be a great fit on the old Hilux, not sure about the new model.

Cheers

I have had a 2005 Hilux SR TD for a few months now. I have got CSA 16x7 alloys, with 245/70/16 BFG all terains. I wanted to go for 255/70/16 but the lease company wouldn't let me put them on due to RTA standards, which is you can't alter the rolling diameter of the wheel and tyre by more than +- 15mm from standard. I couldn't tell you what the offset of the rim is but the tyres stick out about 10mm from the guard. There is however, a fair bit of room available on the inside of the tyre, so you probably could get a different rim offset and therefore a wider tyre and still stay more or less inside the guard.
Good luck.
Go the new Lux!!!

With all these "yuppie" wheel /tyre sizes out now,if you ever intend to go off the blacktop, mite be a good idea to check if the smaller towns out there stock replacements and at what prices..As for "Ugly" vehicles,I prefer,in many cases the so called ugly rigs as they are often designed, not so much for the "cafe crowd',but firstly, for genuine off road, then the secondary aspect is designed in.Looks..As per people, beauty is only skin deep.Take a tyre plug outfit and a "real" portable air compressor whatever rubber you put on..!MPG:5!

We have done 17" prado alloys, which are also available 16" on the new hilux, as well as some other aftermarket alloy, and fitted 265/75/16's to some, as well as our Bilstien suspension package to the new hiluxes, but with the SR you are a little limited to what rim offset you can run.

If you fit good aftermarket tyres, I wouldnt be to concerned about wether country towns carry them or not.

I am picking up a dual cab SR the end of the month, what are the chances of fitting the old 90 series prado rims with either 265/75/16 or 235/85/16 tyres to a SR hilux (no flares)?

With the Bilstien package are you rasing the vehicle and if so how much lift are you getting?

Thanks
Carl

the 235's will fit width wise, but i doubt the 265's will fit on the SR, but the 265/75/16 dia is as big as you can fit on the new hilux.

With our bilstien package we get 60mm of lift on the hilux.

Anything bigger than 16" will void all insurance and warranty .Bare that in mind. You also must consider load ratings etc.

Hey pitboss-

Got a 2005 SR 4x4 myself and curently saving for new wheels/tyres. Done a heap of research around the place into sizes and offsets etc.

Got a mate who ended up fitting a wheel from ROH called the 'RTX' in 16x7. They're a six spoke and look pretty good. He fitted 265/75R16's and with the HiLux offset (30P) they just stay inside the guards with no need for flares, which I think look a bit too 'plastic' on the new Lux. He too went for the ARB suspension lift.

I'll prob end up with something similar once I've got the cash. Looking at his it seems 30mm Positive is the min offset to fit a tyre that big with a 7" rim on the new HiLux. CSA Mullins recomended as much as 38P which would obviously sit 8mm further in meaning less stone chips and mud.
