hello,

i am wanting to upgrade my driving lights in my patrol and was wondering what is the best way, i am wanting to fit halogen lights, they are much brighter and whiter than the standard lights.

also can you get halogen globes for IPF superrallys they have a 100/170w globe?

thanks

G'Day Brent,

You can go for bigger/better globes in the early GU's only, the ones with glass lens. In later models they switched to plastic so an increase in wattage is a big no-no

You can go for better globes, many for sale on EBAY.

The next step is to improve the wiring to the standard lights, either via a Superloom or one made yourself.

From there it is a good set of spotties if still not happy.

Hope this helps

Hey Rolande,
I remember reading somewhere that on GQ's the std wiring loom is good enough to run stronger headlights if fitted. I know he has a GU but you seem to be cluey on this topic so thought id ask.
Cant believe they use plastic on their headlights now.

Rolande,
Thanks for the idea on ebay. I bid for a new pair of globes last night and got them for ONE CENT (plus $11.50 postage !!!). They are 110/100w HID H4 globes (but i really don't expect them to be brilliant....pardon the pun). We'll see how they go...I'll have to upgrade my wiring I reckon, but my GU does have glass lenses; and I don't use plastic covers, so hopefully they won't heat up too much and melt the backs.
Cheers

My GU is an '04 and I'm sure the headlights are glass.

G'Day All,

Leroy - Just going by what a mechanic told me, just assumed series 3 poly. Haven't had a close look at series 4.

Roachie - I use 90/100W bought off EBAY for about $14. They are 4500K which is a bit blue for my liking, but I fitted some Hella spotties, (both pencil beam), with some "whiter" 100W globes. When weather is good use the spotties, when wet or foggy, turn the spotties off and the headlights work great, often don't even notice it is raining. Have tried normal 55/60W, traditional 90/130W, white 55/60W +50% diamondvision globes and now the 90/100W blue. Overall I liked the look of the +50% but still have the blue globes in as they are hard to beat in the rain. Oh, and I blew one of the 90/130W after only a couple hours use.

Ange - would hope the wiring is good but thought fitting relays and some extra thick wire would not hurt. Certainly cheaper than $400 for a good set of spotties

Hope this helps all,

Rolande
