which model do u have the GU or the GQ, the GU is electronic & the GQ is old skool on advertage i get about 11 to 12lt per 100k any where i origionaly has a 3 inch pipe installed but it lost a bit of power & my econonomy was down & was struggling to reach 500km from the normal main tank (i don't bother filling the sub tank much) from the usual 700km is so i had a 2 1/4 inch installed & it goes a heap better mainly for low down tourque. ut still nothing much to brag about

Be carefull with not filling your aux tank. It will rust out.

All fuels have a small amount of water in them and this finds its way to the top of the tank. It will rust, trust me.

...and you will also encourage the growth of cladis sporium resenae and that's the last thing you want to contaminate your fuel system.

I haven't heard too much on the Tune-it but as far as I know Dtronic don't do piggyback ECU's for the 2.8 GU Patrol. Rapid do a piggyback and so do Motson's.

I had the Motson's installed on my 2.8 and was very happy with the results. I have the Dyno sheet if interested (just email me or pm). Also have the piggyback ECU for sale if interested. Low down torque is improved as is the power and torque across the whole rev range.

Blows more smoke when worked due to the overfueling but there is very little that can be done (byproduct of doing the upgrade). My fuel economy didn't change after the upgrade either. I used to get 11's when my baby was stock but finished on 15's due to lifts, tyres etc. With the Motson's installed it sat around 14.5-15.5.

By the way, the 2.8 with a Motson's was just a whisker short of the figures for a 3.0l Patrol. It made that much of a difference.

The 3" exhaust won't make any difference unless you get a dump pipe as well. Had mine dynoed with the a 3" that was mated to the stock turbo outlet. and it was negligable. Had a great note though. Also just increasing the boost with a boost control valve will not do anything either. Factory boost on these is 11.5 PSI and I up'ed it to 14 then 16 then 18 PSI without any noticeable result. Bag of ice on the intercooler got better results.

With the Motson's on the boost is increased to 14 PSI to match the extra fuel.

Hope all this helps

David

Hi Grungle
What does this chip cost and how easy/difficult is it to install?

Mine was installed by Motson's and all up cost was $1400 including Dyno. I did a conversion on my Patrol to a TD42T so am selling the ECU. I am looking for around $700. There are 6 wires that need to be grafted into the Patrols computer harness. I made a wiring diagram and is pretty straight forward.

You can fit the Tunit yourself and they are about $1300. Mate has one and it does the job, lots of grunt, but you should get even more with your 3".
