Where's the nearest "free" snow to Melbourne this weekend? Wife desparately wants to see some, preferably somewhere we can just drive up to and take the golden retriever for a rough & tumble.

Could head up to Donna buang, or Frenchmans gap, or drive up Skene from Jamieson, if there arent to many others doing the same.

Last winter in Melbourne, we went up to the tracks behind Marysville and found plenty of snow and I would be suprised if there was none now. There are a few 4WD tracks their with free access - get a map from the local gas station or info centre in Marysville.

Some snow was very deep on side tracks - too deep to drive through but we stayed on the main track with no problems. All the trees were white with the cold wet stuff - magic really. Take a spade and winch, keep the speed down.

Have fun

Stevesub - shivering in Brisbane today.

That's pretty much what we did - drove up to between Marysville and Lake Mountain. Lots of snow about - lots of moron drivers not slowing down in the wet slippery conditions either.

I was out at Morwell yesterday and there was snow on the ranges south of there. (freaky)
Very easy to get to.
It looked rather thick so I dare say it'd be there till Sunday???
