We don't go away much in the winter but I have decided to start buying a bit extra each time I
shop. A little bit each week so, when it gets warmer it won't be such a strain on the budget.
I bought some canned peas and veges on special that will keep for years and bought fire-lighters last week and matches.
I feel like a squirel storing nuts for winter but the other way round.
It's not a great post I know. It's my first but it might help a struggling family.
Rays will let me do a lay-buy so I will do that there too.
Hi from HelenWheels.
PS this is such a great site. I get caught on it for hours sometimes.
Great work owners.
And thanks to all those people who tell their stories.
Bye for now. Helenwheels.

Helenwheels,
Good on ya. We do the same and I think quite a few on this site as
well. It helps to rat through the pantry prior to a trip for those odd tins that otherwise get thrown out.

Great idea!
I've never done that, but ususally raid the pantry for all the tinned stuff, and top up what we may need along the way.
(but my mantra is that of...."supporting the local communities that I'm visiting")
And as you said it all adds to the burden of the budget!
You should have used the name "squirrelonwheels"!!

Hello Hellenwheels
Good idea . While you stock up have a think about making your supplies up into daily packs [ plastic shopping bags ] . This will let you know exactly how much to take for a trip , and you will never run out of a particular item by poor estimating or over indulgence .

Hi HelenWheels, I have been doing that for a number of years now, always on a budget!!!, I put aside a few items each shopping day and by the time our trip comes around I only need to get the meat and vegs.. This is a great
forum and I check in everyday to find out any new ideas and tips. Cheers Michele

Wow , why not go away much in winter ?? - for me its the best time to go - Nothing beats a
good camp fire to warm up to! and lets face it - if your 4x4ing - your going to be in a warm vehicle anyway ( most of us )
something to ponder - last year bush fire season started LAte August - ( winter time ) and with the lack of rain , i suspect the fire season will start early once again (NSW) and with that -- No
camp fires or cooking on anything other than small gas stoves - ALSO some national parks are closed during these times to avoid any threat of bushfire.
Summer time for me is Waterski season and could not imagine wanting to go away
camping in the bush with 40 deg + heat with fear of bush fire- This is just my opinion.
