Terrano 2 TD-27 Engine Check Light ???

Getting the Engine Check light coming on since this morning.
Seems to affect the accelerator as when you have foot very lightly on gas, revs actually climb disproportionately. A hard rev, or restart clears it for a while.
At one stage, it seemed to go into 'limp home mode'.
Any ideas what could cause this ?

ring a nissan dealer and ask for their advice.

I have been quite reliably told that Nissan Australia have instructed their dealers NOT to give any advice, or allow access to dealer owned manuals etc!
