Hi for those of you who remember I was last looking for a 4by for my brother inlaw, he has finally settled on a nissan pathfinder, between 2000/01/02 st or ti with up to 60,oooklm from what i have seen these fit into his budget of around 25k.
Any thoughts on this vehicle will be much appreciated, things to look out for etc when inspecting vehicle, reliability, performance etc....

Thank You All

Babs
the pathfinder is a great little 4x4, i had a 97 model for about 2 years and we did the beach trips and the bush trips and had no problems what so ever.
We traded up to a patrol for one reason and that was so that we could get more leg room for our son and the Patrol would be a better one for towing our Caravan.

If i was to get a second 4x4 for the family it would be a Pathfinder.

Hope that helps

Went to the local Nissan dealer to have a test drive of the new Pathfinder.

Tried to sit in it and found I had no head room. I had to crouch to get in it with my back and neck bent. I couldn't staighten and my head was against the roof. I am 189 cms tall. That is above average but not huge.

I have a GU Patrol which I am extremely happy with and was only going to take one for a test drive as a matter of interest.

There was no way I could drive the thing. Nissan have made a MSU with this one.
Life's great and it just keeps getting better

I had a 2000 TI model for three years and it was one of the nicest cars that I have owned. It had plenty of room, very comfortable unless you are tall and performed very well both on and off road. The only down side was the fuel consumption which was around 15-18 litres per 100 around the City and down to 11-12 on a country run, non towing.

There are a lot of very satisfied Pathy owners out there and your brother in law could be the next.

We own a TerranoII with 2.7 Turbo diesel in New Zealand. This vehicle has very similar if not the same mechanicals as the Pathfinder and we love it. Not bad off road as well for the type of vehicle.

When we get rid of our Freelanderr (soon I hope), I want to replace it with a Pathfinder diesel. High fuel comsumption is our only concern and maybe the gearbox (auto) if used for heavy towing - we have aheavy boat in NZ.

2001 Freelander V6 - a lemon
2000 Troopy pop-top camper - we love it
1995 Terrano II - our NZ vehicle

Yeah, I would have to say great 4bys also. Parents had for about 5 years (99 model) and it never missed a beat.
As some one already said, they are thirsty though, we were getting around 17L per hundred around the burbs also.

I have a 2000 with close to 170,000 up.
Economy can be a problem if you have a lead foot! My best range has been 720km on a standard tank because I was caredful not to go over 100km/h.
THe beast has long legs and will easily pass 130k/h unless you are careful.
A friend has just got a 2002 model to replace his Jeep and marvels at the comfort.
I'm 192cm and could use a bit more legroom in the drivers seat, I just havent got around to putting runners on the seat to move it back a little.
I'm having gas fitted next week, so I guess I intend to keep it a while longer!
I've had it off road a few times and I tow a boat. I've towed a BIG tri axle trailer with no problems.

What my mate and I both want is cruise control, BTW his is already on gas and gets around 450km from 60l

The only other thing to consider is remote locking, it wasnt standard to the early ones. I fittes an alarm/immobiliser with remote locking for $100. The only minor hitch is that the drivers door doesnt have an electric lock, but one from a kit was only$20 and its a breeze to fit. I spent more time travelling to pick up the thing than fitting it!

Hope this all helps.
